AJ Hauser Posted February 29, 2020 Posted February 29, 2020 Hey boys and girls! I'm going to post another thread to get some information on swimming grubs to start the season off (I'm in IL, it's cold - curious if any of you have any thoughts on that - I'm fishing a large pond with muck bottom and a max depth of maybe 8' from shore) but I wanted to ask if any of you had re-painted spoons or jigs, etc? I think some of the forage in the pond is pumpkinseed, so I'd like to put a green grub on an orange jighead but I need to get some little blue lines on there. YES... I know this is probably overkill and won't make much of a difference, but it will be a fun project I hope. How would those of you with more experience go about making this modification? Thanks, much appreciated! Quote
cadman Posted February 29, 2020 Posted February 29, 2020 On a jig, I would take the skirt off and any rattles. Drop the jigs in paint stripper. Wait for about 15 minutes. The paint should then wipe off. Next wash them in soap and water and let dry thoroughly. Re-apply powder paint on jig to the color you want, bake jig, let cool and then hand paint your stripes on the jig. You can do the same to spoons or blades. 1 Quote
AJ Hauser Posted February 29, 2020 Author Posted February 29, 2020 Nice - thank you! Much appreciated. Do you think there is any need to scuff up the surface on a metal spoon to get the paint to adhere better? Powder paint with that as well? Really appreciate the insight - thank you. Quote
cadman Posted February 29, 2020 Posted February 29, 2020 Yes on a metal spoon, I would lightly sand with 400 grit sand paper. Wipe off the blade with alcohol ( not the drinking kind, save that for later) and then powder paint the blade. Make sure you bake everything, baking hardens the paint. If you would like I can send you some pics of some blades I made. PM me your e-mail. 1 Quote

Super User Munkin Posted February 29, 2020 Super User Posted February 29, 2020 Simple way to do it is just buy some fingernail polish in those colors. Allen 2 Quote

Allen Thanks Allen, I think you're right - no need to make this over-complicated for such a small, small edit. Thank you for the feedback. Quote

Allen I was going to recommend this, or to get some colored permanent markers, and then take some clear nail polish over it to keep it from rubbing off. Either way, all this is probably overkill, and using just a plain GP or Orange jighead is probably going to get you the same results. But I understand, cabin fever is real up north right now. 1 Quote
