Super User WRB Posted March 1, 2020 Super User Posted March 1, 2020 According to popular thinking that mono stretches too much to get a good hook set it would have been impossible for me to catch hundreds of big bass using mono line fishing single hook jigs and worms. I use light line compared to 99% of bass anglers on this site who fish jigs and worms, 10 lb to 12 lb test. I caught every giant bass listed in my top 5 using 10 to 12 lb mono line casting over 100' in deep water on jigs. I use a hook set technique that works for me by reeling the line tight quickly then sweeping the rod back firmly to penetrate the sharp hook through the basses mouth tissue. Tom PS, at night I use 15 lb Big Game and make shorter casts because the bass are less wary and can't always see where I am casting and heavier line has better abrasion resistance and knot strength. 2 Quote
