Jim Sutter Posted February 27, 2020 Posted February 27, 2020 Who makes your favorite Jerkbait? Also, what are your two favorite colors? 1 Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted February 27, 2020 Super User Posted February 27, 2020 I've been a Rapala fan for 40+ years - haven't seen a reason to change yet. Perch and the classic Silver top the list. 1 Quote
Super User FishTank Posted February 27, 2020 Super User Posted February 27, 2020 Megabass Vision 110. Once you own one, you will not be the same> broke. Also, the Lucky Craft Pointer would be my second favorite. 5 Quote
Jim Sutter Posted February 27, 2020 Author Posted February 27, 2020 MN Fisher, Thank you for that information. I will definitely get one of each. FishTank, Thank you for that information. What are your prefer colors? Quote
Super User gim Posted February 27, 2020 Super User Posted February 27, 2020 I like rapalas too but the hooks are sometimes not great on them so I'll replace the trebles. I just got a megabass vision 110 for Christmas and I intend to use it this spring. The issue with such an expensive lure where I fish is pike. They are lure wreckers if they don't trim the line off completely. Favorite pattern is perch. Most smallmouth lakes/rivers around here with brownies have perch as the natural forage. Quote
Chadm Posted February 27, 2020 Posted February 27, 2020 Megabass Vision 110, Lucky Craft Flash Pointer, and Jackall Rerange are my top 3! Love anything in a Ghost Minnow color! Quote
Jim Sutter Posted February 27, 2020 Author Posted February 27, 2020 Chadm, Thank you for your reply. I will be sure to purchase some lures in the Ghost Minnow color. Quote
Way north bass guy Posted February 27, 2020 Posted February 27, 2020 My favourite for several years now has been the Strike King KVD, in mainly the larger size but I’ve also done well with the smaller size when the bass are feeding on smaller bait. For the shallower, perch/bluegill based lakes I’ve done best with the top two colours, the bottom one has been the best for me on deeper, smelt/herring based lakes. The larger ones are also super baits for spring pike fishing. 1 Quote
Jim Sutter Posted February 27, 2020 Author Posted February 27, 2020 Way north bass guy, Thank you for your information regarding Jerkbaits. I will be sure to add your choice of colors to my tackle box. Quote
Tizi Posted February 27, 2020 Posted February 27, 2020 I have several: 6th Sense Provoke 106, Vision 110 (and +1 and +2), Strike King KVD 300 and deep, and Rapala Shadow Rap. I go with perch, trout and ghost colors. Quote
walleyecrazy Posted February 27, 2020 Posted February 27, 2020 6th sense provoke 106x has become my go to. I usually fish it in the perch or the gold reactor color. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted February 27, 2020 Super User Posted February 27, 2020 Smithwick rogue in clown color. That is about the only jerkbait I can get a bite on. Quote
Super User Scott F Posted February 27, 2020 Super User Posted February 27, 2020 Lucky Craft Pointer in Chartreuse Shad. 1 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted February 27, 2020 Super User Posted February 27, 2020 I like jerkbaits. After the 2018 season, I said this; "The SK KVD 300 & 300 Deep as well as the Megabass ITO Vision 110 and the 110+1 were again very good. As well as the Megabass Ito Vision 110 FX Tour Premium; especially where & when I was looking for extra casting distance." After the 2019 season I said this: "My Jerkbait addiction hasn’t waned and while I threw a few different makes & models, the Megabass Vision 110 and the 110 plus 1 both in GP Pro Perch as well as the SK KVD 300 and 300 Deep also Ayu & Perch did quite a bit of damage for me again this season; both early & later in the year. Honorable mention goes to the LUCKY CRAFT Slender Pointer 127MR; an older model ‘real skin’ brown trout pattern." A-Jay 3 Quote
Super User DitchPanda Posted February 27, 2020 Super User Posted February 27, 2020 My favorite is the rapala shadow rap in bone...my second favorite is the rapala xrap in silver...but there is a big gap between my 1 and 2 Quote

Jim Sutter Posted February 27, 2020 Author Posted February 27, 2020 Tizi, Thank you for your information. I will be sure to purchase one of each of the colors you suggested. Walleyecrazy, Thank you for your information. The perch and gold reactor colors will be added to my tackle box. Bankbeater, Thank you for your information. I love clown color lures. I believe the Smithwick lure you named. Scott F, Thank you for chiming in. I will purchase a Lucky Craft Pointer in Chartreuse Shad. A-Jay, I appreciate your information and pictures. I will be throwing far more Jerkbaits this season. DitchPanda, Thank you, for adding a few more lures to my tackle box. Like I stated above, Jerkbaits were never my thing. but, this year Jerkbaits will be on the menu in many brands and colors. FishTank, Thank you for getting back to me with those colors. 1 Quote
Super User DitchPanda Posted February 28, 2020 Super User Posted February 28, 2020 Be careful jerkbaits and crankbaits are both slippery slopes..you may be telling yourself I'll just get half a dozen baits to try...fifty baits later your wondering when it will stop! That said a jerkbait certain times of the year is unreal...when it's on nothing can beat it in my experience. Last spring I fished a local lake...fishing near a rock jetty I threw lipless and squarebills along side of it without a touch...tried a bladed jig nada...drug a jig around nada...switched to a jerkbait 3 jerks in got a 3lber...over the next hour I caught probably 10 more nice bass from the same little 15 yard stretch Quote

JoePhish Posted February 28, 2020 Posted February 28, 2020 Rapala X-Rap XR10 in Silver is my go to suspending jerk bait. I have a bunch of other but that one gets the most fish for me. I ditch the feathered treble and upsize the hooks. I like to upsize the hooks on some jerk baits because I find bass sometimes just slash at the bait and aren't able to swallow it. I also often throw a floating Zerek Sabre Dance 85 in Black Shad (BS) which is pretty much chrome with a black back and a white belly. It's a discontinued bait that's hard to find in the States. Besides the colors Silver or Chrome I like using White and sometimes Gold. Quote

Don’t you find that when you upsize the hooks on a suspending jerkbait that the bigger hooks cause the lure to sink on the pause instead of suspend? Quote

Yes. I like a slow sink sometimes, especially in the fall. Quote

I’ve done ok on them, but I find that they take a little more input to get the best action out of them. They take a little harder twitch of the rod to get them to move, likely due to the extra lip on the tail. Quote
rangerjockey Posted February 28, 2020 Posted February 28, 2020 On Table Rock, depending on water clarity and cloud cover, the Spro McStick in blue bandit and Norman flake. The Vision 110 and 110+ in pro blue, Tennessee shad and French pearl and good Ol' Table Rock shad in dirty water. Quote
Super User GreenPig Posted February 28, 2020 Super User Posted February 28, 2020 I've got a 3700 deep Plano full of most brands and a wide assortment of colors. I have no dividers in it, so it's 4 long slots. I choose which slot I'll extract a jerkbait with Einy Meeny Miny Moe. Then I'll grab one and of course they're all hooked together and shake. The first one to shake loose gets fished. This selection style works only if you fish with confidence. ? 2 Quote
