fin Posted February 26, 2020 Posted February 26, 2020 Anybody ever seen, or tried, a spinnerbait with clear blades? I did a site search and only found one mention of it by @Munkin back in 2008: Quote I can make you one with a single clear colorado bait but you will not be able to burn it? The plastic blades are so light and swing so wide they have a lot of lift. I have been looking for the clear plastic willows for 3 years now with no luck Expand Jann’s sells clear polymer willow blades now, but I wonder how they perform. I’ve never seen anybody selling spinnerbaits with clear blades. I’ve gotten into making custom skirts just for amusement, and there’s been some occasions when I’m using earth tone colors I don’t want a lot of flash from blades, I want the skirt to be the visual attraction and the blades to just create vibration. I want it to look more like a crawfish than a shad. Quote
Super User Team9nine Posted February 26, 2020 Super User Posted February 26, 2020 Crankbait Corp (Tom Seward) was the first to create and sell them to my knowledge. I still have a few :) 1 Quote

You have good luck with it? Expand The bait ran great, but I never caught anything on it when I tried them some 25 years ago. The few I have left are all in packages and part of my vintage tackle collection. The lexan blades (I believe that was what they were made of) were very light and didn't have a lot of pull back or heavy vibration like a metal blade might from what I remember. Would have been a good blade for burning a spinnerbait in clear water, I imagine. 1 Quote
ABart61 Posted February 27, 2020 Posted February 27, 2020 LurePartsOnline sell Ghost Blades. They are clear polymer blades in both willow and colorado. https://www.lurepartsonline.com/Ghost-Blades_2 1 Quote
Super User Munkin Posted February 28, 2020 Super User Posted February 28, 2020 What I found out experimenting with plastic blades is they run differently than metal ones. The willows I have but haven't tried them yet so they maybe different. What differs them is they have almost no flash which is why I wanted to try them in ultra clear water. Plastic blades (not sure what they are actually made of) are very light compared to metal. Depending on what you are trying to accomplish this could be good or bad. Besides the actual weight the plastic is buoyant which causes drag on the blade. Where this is most evident is if you kill the bait and watch it drop. A metal blade will not helicopter much on the way down but the plastic one does. The weight of the bait itself on the drop will pull the blade down and its buoyancy will cause it to spin. If I had to pick the main reason to use a plastic blade this would be it. The blade spins the same in both forward movement and on a dead fall. Not sure if I answered your question or not but figured I would just post my findings for the greater good. Allen 3 Quote
