txbass1 Posted December 14, 2008 Posted December 14, 2008 Congrats Red, That thing brings back some awesome memories. My brother and I used to tear up the third lake at Hide-A Way lake in Lindale in one of those! You will love it.....just be watching the forecast and don't get caught out in some waves. Quote
IDbasser Posted December 14, 2008 Posted December 14, 2008 Congrats on the boat. I have been wanting to get one those too. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted December 15, 2008 Super User Posted December 15, 2008 Happy fishing Red. Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted December 15, 2008 Super User Posted December 15, 2008 No better way to spend a profit sharing check. Enjoy it in good health. Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted December 15, 2008 Super User Posted December 15, 2008 Red congratulations on the boat. I have a question though. What the heck are you on this site telling all of us for. You should be out on the water. LOL Enjoy and let me know when you can get down this way for a day on Conroe. I bet someone on this site has a good used TM that will fit it nicely and save you a few bucks. Quote
Red Posted December 15, 2008 Author Posted December 15, 2008 thanks. i do need to get a trolling motor and battery, plus all the other stuff, life vests etc etc. i dont know much about TM, but they have one at academy for $100, it is a 30lb thrust, i figured that would be enough for this little boat. i also want to get a depth finder for it. but right now i just have to get all these things as i can afford them, so it might be a few weeks until i actually get it on the water. i will contact you after the first of the year and see about coming down to conroe. i am still not having any luck here, my buddy today caught two, one went just shy of 5lbs and the other was around 2lbs. i looked through the pics on my camera, the last time i caught a fish was november 16th, and i bet i went 2-3 weeks prior to that with nothing. dont know what i am doing wrong, this is the longest skunk i have had since i started LMB fishing about two years ago. thanks Cliff Quote
mattm Posted December 15, 2008 Posted December 15, 2008 Thats awesome man. Congratulations. Thats almost the exact boat I started fishing from. I wish my buddy still had it. We found a little 700 acre stump infested lake that was impossible to launch a real bass boat from b/c of the ramp. It was like our little slice of heaven. Even if I could launch my boat at that same lake we couldn't fish half of it that we did in that boat. Quote
DADto4 Posted December 15, 2008 Posted December 15, 2008 Congrats on the new addition,I've had one of those myself and it supplied me with many good memories. And by the way 30lb thrust will be fine, that's what I had and it pushed us very well Quote
fivesixone Posted December 15, 2008 Posted December 15, 2008 Sweet!! I just found out my girlfriend is gonna buy me one of these for Christmas! I told her to get me the 9 footer, since the 8 looks a little tiny bit cramped... Is it big enough for ya?? Would a 30lb thrust TM be enough to push around two ~190 lb dudes on it decently? Or would I wanna go with like a 45 or so? I also read about people using the front mount of the boat for better control from the trolling motor... Any input from anyone on this? Quote

Let me know Quote

Red Posted December 23, 2008 Author Posted December 23, 2008 so it seems i will be getting enough academy gift cards for x-mas to get me a trolling motor. i am wondering if the 30lb is enough for this boat? or should i step up to the next size? any info will be much appreciated!! Cliff Quote
ArcticCat500 Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 this may be somthing to consider for your fishfinder needs, real close to your buget, and they offer others at a higher price as well. http://store.humminbird.com/humminbird-products/sonar/fishin-buddy/110-fishin-buddy/prod407110-1.html as for TM's I have the Endura 55lb thrust on a 10ft JB, it moves it along fairly well, thats with 2 guys bout 200lbs each and full gear. Super User KU_Bassmaster. Posted December 23, 2008 Super User Posted December 23, 2008 Without a doubt get a 55 lbs. You will be so happy you did. I have a similar boat in the 10 ft version. You are going to get pushed around in the wind big time. Quote
nycgrip Posted December 25, 2008 Posted December 25, 2008 i have a 55# on an inflatable pontoon style boat, sea eagle foldcat, and i get 3.5 mph top speed. like the others i recommend getting a 55, even if it means going without a fishfinder a little while, and since you cant get more power witout a big headache of a second battery, you wont have that nagging feeling to upgrade. Quote
Red Posted December 25, 2008 Author Posted December 25, 2008 ok thanks guys. now another question. will one battery be enough to run this motor for a day of fishing? not constant running of course. also, when i do get a depth finder, will it need its own battery? Quote
ArcticCat500 Posted December 25, 2008 Posted December 25, 2008 I run my 55lb ona Sears DieHard Marine battery with no trouble, I fish out of a 10ft Jon, and I've been out all day. You can power your FF off the same battery. What I do like about the Fishing Buddy from Hummingbird is that it has its own power supply, no need for extra wiring. Quote

Im very familiar with that smaller 12v batt, i used it for a starter box when I raced RC Nitro off road buggies and truggys, that batt would barely make a day at the races, I'm sure it has plenty of power for a FF but I couldnt imagine it powering a TM for very long at all, but of course I may be wrong...Have you ever had to use it? Im seriously looking into a LiPo conversion for TM's and boating electronics, Lipo's will out power and outlast any conventional battery, mark my words, a brushless TM and LiPo battery will be available for the TM's soon enough.
