T.A.L38 Posted February 26, 2020 Posted February 26, 2020 Howdy all! In a matter of weeks I will be heading to Orlando Florida. My father lives in the area so his place will be my base of operations. This will be my first time fishing in Florida. I'll be there for 2 weeks. The entire purpose of this trip is to fish Largemouth and Snakehead. For the sake of this post lets focus on the bass but if you do have some Snakehead info I'll listen as well. If you have Fishing Knowledge of the area (tackle shops, boat rentals, guide services, hot spots, where to buy licenses) and are willing to share, I'm all ears! Many thanks, tight lines! Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted February 26, 2020 Global Moderator Posted February 26, 2020 Bass fishing Florida? Take a bunch of soft plastics and rig them weedless. Trick worms senkos flukes toads and creature baits. I haven’t fished down there extensively but those things always seem to work. I don’t know if there are snakeheads in Orlando but if there are they will eat frogs from what I understand. A few other toothy critters will bite in the Kissimmee chain, pickerel and bowfin 2 Quote
SC53 Posted February 26, 2020 Posted February 26, 2020 Not many, if any, snakeheads in the Orlando area. Too far north. Stop by Bitters bait and tackle in Longwood and they should be able to help with recommendations. As TnR stated, plastics are hard to beat here in Florida 2 Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 26, 2020 Super User Posted February 26, 2020 I fished ToHo last month with ghoti. We wacked 'em on shiners. 1 Quote
Deeare Posted February 26, 2020 Posted February 26, 2020 Disney is the place!!! Took the kids to Disney last year. I would see 6+lb bass in all of the small ponds. I tried to buy me and my 2 boys Mickey Mouse rods at the gift shop. Wife was suspicious of the purchase.... I would have got away with it but my wife heard me ask the guy where I can get some rubber worms or shiners. 1 Quote
crypt Posted February 26, 2020 Posted February 26, 2020 kissimee chain, disney, stick marsh......................the list goes on and on......as far as bait shops you can't beat Bitters in longwood..... Quote

You can get a license online (https://myfwc.com/license/) or at Academy or BassPro if you make a tackle run before fishing. There are plenty of guides listed for Toho by good members on here. A search for "Toho guide" will bring up the recommendations. If you want a different lake, shoot me a PM. Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted February 26, 2020 Super User Posted February 26, 2020 I just got back from Orlando yesterday. I met some guys from another message board and fished Teneroc. I killed them on a white swim jig and flukes. Speed worms worked well as well. Quote

Easy 100+ days. Pit B, back around 2000'ish Quote

We just kept hopping from spot to spot, looking for schooling fish. The guy I was with told me that he had an 85 fish day there last year. 1 Quote
NittyGrittyBoy Posted February 27, 2020 Posted February 27, 2020 Sounds like they still bite good! Maybe next time I visit family I need to slip a quick trip ? 1 Quote
bostonsox2904 Posted February 27, 2020 Posted February 27, 2020 Check out the Other Fish Species forum for Snakehead info. Gotta head down to South Florida in Broward County for snakeheads and while youre at it, you'll probably get some shots at peacocks too Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 28, 2020 Super User Posted February 28, 2020 Check out the pics in "Fishing Reports". Just posted. Quote

Also, depends on where you are staying in Orlando, about 45mins to an hour up I4 in Deland is Highland Park Fish Camp. (Bitters sent me there over Thanksgiving and it was Great) They have guides, cabin rentals, boats etc.. Look up Fish Orlando on the FWC site. lots of local info Plenty of parks and retention ponds of fish around here as well. Quote
redux Posted March 5, 2020 Posted March 5, 2020 Orlando is loaded with bank fishing spots that are easy to get on. Plenty of guides too. You can rent john boats at Bill Frederick park. Those are the only boats allowed on the lake and there's really no other way to fish it. Read that to mean big fish that do not get pressured. Friend of mine knows a fisheries biologist who got a 10 a few weeks ago dragging a black ribbon tail around grass lines. Just saying. You can get the FWC app and buy your license in there so you don't have to bother with the paperwork in a store. FYI shops make no money selling licenses. 1 Quote
