AUman Posted February 25, 2020 Posted February 25, 2020 I’ve got a handful of jigs that the skirt has came off of. Instead of putting the skirt back on there I thought about just putting a craw or creature bait on there and just fish it like that. Instead of Texas rigging one for flipping. I mean most put a Craw is creature bait trailer on there anyway anyone ever didn’t that? 3 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 25, 2020 Global Moderator Posted February 25, 2020 Yes, jigworms and craws have been a thing for long time. It works great for skipping docks with a beaver. 1 Quote
Grim_Reaver Posted February 25, 2020 Posted February 25, 2020 I'm gonna hijack this thread and ask if anyone has used the same concept with swim jig heads and paddletails? ?☠️ Quote

Super User Columbia Craw Posted February 25, 2020 Super User Posted February 25, 2020 First of all AUman, welcome ! Great question for your third post. When I first starting fishing spider grubs or spider jigs, I put them on a jig head with a weed guard. I wanted them weedless so why not. The skirt adds fullness or the impression of bulk and mass. Sometimes ( smallmouth) fish prefer something smaller. Go for it. Grim: Compare a swimbait head with a brush guard and a swim jig head and you will note a strange similarity. I fish paddle tails, especially 4.0 Fats on a 3/8th Dobyns swimbait head with the brush guard around lay downs in sloughs. Great option. 2 Quote
Super User Mobasser Posted February 25, 2020 Super User Posted February 25, 2020 Yes, you can use craw baits that way, and they will work. An Arkie style jighead with a brush guard works well with craws and creature baits Quote
Jermination Posted February 25, 2020 Posted February 25, 2020 whatever you do, dont put a yamamoto double tail hula grub on there ? 2 1 Quote

I use them when the fish aren't hitting a skirted jig. 1 Quote

There are no rules. I ran out of swimmers and tried the dingers and they whacked it. Nude swing heads with ewg hooks for weedless presentations work just as well, if that's what they happen want on that particular day. 2 Quote
