I sold my SLX XT 7.2.1 to get something in a 6.x.1 gear ratio for my Dobyns Champion Glass 704 rod. I will be mostly throwing lighter cranks around 1/4-3/8 oz, but I do plan to hopefully be able to use it to throw the Whopper Plopper size 90 for river smallies. I also have a 705 Glass paired with a SLX DC, in case I need to throw the WP with that, but I'm keeping that a 7.2.1 gear ratio because I will throw a lot of Bladed Jigs on it.

Both have the SVS Braking System, the difference being in spool size, weight and some color difference. The heaviest lure I would throwing would most likely be that whopper plopper which I believe weighs 3/8, and I'm usually just casting it from side to side from a kayak in a pretty narrow river and not really bomb casting it or anything where I think I have to worry about spooling a smaller spool.  I can get a used SLX XT for $95 from AFL with a $10 coupon I got, or pay $120 the SLX MGL 70.

So I'm wondering is the SLX MGL 70 is worth the extra $25 or not?

I've not used either but with the lures you're planning on throwing I think you'll be happy with the XT.

Use the extra $25 for some line.

I decided to get both, the MGL for the DX 702c to replace a Concept Z and the XT for the 704cb.

Nice, please update us when you get them. I'm thinking of replacing my regular SLX reels soon and might have to try the XT or MGL.

I've had the SLX, SLX XT and SLX DC. I just sold the SLX and SLX XT because I wanted a lower gear ratio. I still got the DC on my 705 Glass rod. I probably won't replace the regular SLX, just because I prefer the SVS braking system. I love the XT and actually liked it more than the DC, until I put the DC on the 705 and started casting 2.5 squarebills and cranks with it, and now I'm liking it more. AFL usually has good prices on used XT's in excellent condition.
