Kitz Posted December 21, 2008 Posted December 21, 2008 I've got all the bolts undone and the motor ready to remove (strapped to a hoist). How do I get it unstuck from the transom without damaging the fiberglass? Anyone have any tricks that would help? Thanks Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted December 21, 2008 Super User Posted December 21, 2008 Wrap a chain around the motor and hook it to your truck and punch it... Just kidding Give more info. Type boat, motor, any jack plate involved. No information given. Count the bolts in your hand. If it's three that's a problem. Quote

Super User cart7t Posted December 21, 2008 Super User Posted December 21, 2008 Slowly begin raising the hoist. The silicone should not have made any sort of chemical bond with the gelcoat that would cause damage..... wait, I see it's a Nitro. I'll rephrase that statement. The silicone probably didn't make a chemical bond with the gelcoat that would cause damage but that depends on what day of the week it went down the assembly line at the Nitro plant. Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted December 21, 2008 Super User Posted December 21, 2008 Cart7t, unless you have firsthand experience with silicon damaging the Gelcoat on a Nitro, I would have to say that that statement was uncalled for. Quote
Super User cart7t Posted December 21, 2008 Super User Posted December 21, 2008 Hey Mike. I've seen some "new" boats from the good folks at Nitro and their fiberglass boat subsidiaries with construction flaws and defects that I couldn't believe. If silicone could actually bond to a resin based gelcoat, I'm betting the good folks at BPS would be the first to achieve it. Quote
Kitz Posted December 21, 2008 Author Posted December 21, 2008 Thnaks for the help. I got it taken care of. Quote
