Bought a lews mb baitcaster during the holiday sales and looking for advice on a rod. whether a medium, med heavy or what. Thinking mostly for rattle traps, spinnerbaits chatterbaits etc. have one of each and a couple of older pistol grips. anybody use these still? under 150 medium or med heavy?

Dobyns 734c in Fury or Sierra is a great option for an all purpose rod using all the lures you mentioned.

Budget?  We could recommend rods from $40 to $700.  :D

EDIT:  Well....shucks.  :embarassed:  Didn't notice the 150.

EDIT2:  Maybe a Genesis II Gabe's Rip Rap Special or a Regular or Moderate-Fast Ark Invoker Pro?  Not everything has to be Shimano, Daiwa or Dobyns.  :teeth:

Man-oh-man, are you sittin' in the catbird seat!  You have a Lew's reel, and Lew's sells that David Fritts line of Perfect Cranker rods, Those are all moderate or mod/fast actions, which would be right up your alley. Good thing is, they're priced right. I recommend the 7' MH/M. Great shock absorber! Perfect for burning traps, perfect for chatterbaits, and kinda-so-so-and-not-all-that-bad for spinnerbaits. (The 7' H/M is actually real good for spinnerbaits.)

It costs good money to make a rod that is sensitive, for bottom contact. For upper-water-column retrieve, you don't need sensitivity. Why throw away money when you don't have to?

OTOH, if you're bound and determined to throw money away, throw it my way. I could use some!    ???     jj

Wow, nice list. Looks like something that should be posted in a bass angler’s man cave.

A bit more than your price, but I've got a Dobyns Champion735c  7.3 MHF Glass rod. I just can't get enough of this thing. I sometimes fish the baits it works best on just to use the rod. Mine's paired with a Curado DC.

For traps and Squarebills I use a couple falcon bucoo trapcasters and they are great..believe the falcon bucoo sr series is around 100 on tackle warehouse...for spinners, buzzbaits and chatters I use the previous generation Berkley shock 7ft medium heavy...they are only like 40 or 50 at wal mart

I use a 10 year old regular Lightning Rod for those. I have another medium I use for cranks. I'd replace them, but they won't break. And if it ain't broke... These are techniques that don't require great sensitivity.
