aluminum hole repair?

Ok I have rewired and have the electrical system on my new boat working great.  Now that I have done this I have a question? There are a few pin hole size holes on the hull of the boat ( 1996 bass tracker) They are by the transom straps and I believe they are due to improper grounding during charging . They are really small holes and I was wondering if pig putty or jb weld would be better until I could afford to have the  holes repaired professionally. Thanks in advance

Let me start out by saying that im not a welder, but I would take it by your local welder and see what he says.  If its too much I would just use jb weld (it has worked on the rivets on my jon boat great!).  The question to ask yourself is do you want it fixed now or do you want it fixed right??

Hey man, I asked the same question a few months ago. The majority of folks (including the welder I went to), recommended not using JB Weld. They said it works great for a lot of application but on boats it tends to break off because of the flexing of the hull.

That being said there are also a number of folks on here that have used it sucessfully.

The welder is a good option but it was a pain to find one near me that would do boats. I did finally get some brazing rods recommended by the folks here. HTS-2000. They are pretty easy to use, not the cheapest things in the world but they work real good.

I know a guy who used JB Weld on an alum jon and kept it going for 25 years.  Give it a try for a few bucks it might be great.

I wish I could remember what the stuff is i bought to fix a pencil size hole in my boat. I patched from the inside with jb weld but it wasn't water tight. I tried a bunch of things and finally found one that works awesome. I got it at west marine this looks a lot like what I bought WEST SYSTEM #101 Repair Packs. This was the only product I was able to get to stick to the hull of my boat. It has been on my boat for at least 6 months and works great. It is sandable and paintable.

JB Weld is a good short term fix.  The nice things about JB Weld is that it's easy to find, can be used on the same hole more than once, and is cheap.

A good welder is your best fix.
