I would guess so, since all retailers have been trying to deplete their stock of current model 70's.

I sure hope so. Kicking myself for not picking up another C71 when they went on closeout at Tackle Warehouse for a steel discount.

Bamtam1 at Shimano says no new 70 and the SLX MGL right now is for Japan.  I guess perhaps available on a Japan tackle web site.

I picked up an SLX 71 and winded up selling it, the Curado 71 is a better reel in my opinion.

Did you mean an SLX, SLX XT, or SLX DC?  There is no SLX 71.  There is a JDM SLX MGL.

I picked up the SLX 71 MGL from japan, I used it a few times and found the curado 71to be a better reel.

The SLX MGL is not a bad reel at all. It is more control than 70, and easier to cast. I think it might be able to cast light lure better than 70. It doesn’t have x ship bearing but that might be a good thing since my 4 CU70 is grinding.

BTW I sold my SLX 70, not because I don’t like it but I have too many of this size reel.

All 4 of you Curado 70’s are grinding?

Anyone else’s have this issue? I wonder what’s causing that?

Mine was doing that. I sent it to Shimano and they said they changed the gears. It's fine now.

My Curado 200i has also had the gears changed.

Dunno what the problem is.       jj

Yes one more than the other depends on how much it’s been used or abused. The ones that caught the most big fish (crap and catfish) and the one for frog, grinding first and the most. The newest one and has been use the less (71) start to feel it but not as much. In the mean time my 200ipg that I use for big spinner bait and medium swimbait still smooth.

Added: a lot of ppl claimed that x-ship bearing that cause the grinding. I went to shimano headquarters and they give me a set of x-ship bearing.

For the price of the SLX MGL 70 I am finding that I like it more and more each time I use it. I finally decided to dedicate it to a 7'2 MH Zodias and use it for 3/16 oz Texas Rigging.
