Many of the lakes here don't have much in the way of middle depth. So 30 feet sits 5 feet from 4 feet and the the 4 feet starts 150 feet from the bank. Makes for some of the Longest boat docks you'll ever see. The fish often cruise along way up in the shallow water, near the bank but can see (or some how 'feel') me coming from a long way off. Once detected, bite percentage drops to ZERO. So putting one of these into orbit from a non-detectable distance - is very helpful. A-Jay 2 Quote

My best days on Juliette, which seems very similar to Menderchuck, have been on a spook style bait. The spots come up out of 40' of water and wallop it. I wonder how many more would bite if they didn't have to fully expose themselves. Quote
Smells like fish Posted February 20, 2020 Posted February 20, 2020 I opened a crankbait box the other day and was surprised to find a new never fished size 07 subwalk misplaced with cranks. I've no idea when or where I bought it but glad to see it and it will be thrown next time I get to go fishing. Must be from 10 or so year ago during my skitterwalk spree. Looking online the size 07 is still available in the saltwater series. That hot olive color is speaking to me loudly! I was surprised at how expensive these lures are as I am accustomed to $6-$8 husky jerks and dt's. Online these seem to be in the $12 range. Quote

He swears that trolling motors spook fish. I've only watched him a couple times, but he seemed to do pretty well. I asked him why he didn't use a kayak (which are popular around here) and he just laughed and rocked his boat side to side .... while standing up. "Nuf said. ? jj 1 Quote

Super User Fishes in trees Posted February 21, 2020 Super User Posted February 21, 2020 I have 4 of those baits, purchased the year they came out. I fished them some the first year, kinda the way I'd fish a Sammy, but underwater all the time, and didn't catch anything. I might try them again this year. Quote
Smells like fish Posted February 22, 2020 Posted February 22, 2020 @A-Jay how did the original Sureset hooks work out for you on these lures back in the day? I recall you did try the DT lures too. The majority of mine are still Sureset equipped. I recall the DT did not work out for you but what was your thoughts on this style rear treble? Thanks. Quote

I HATE THAT HOOK ! I change most stock trebles but that one in particular, was no good for me. I use a couple of #2 Mustad KVD Triple grip short shank EWG's. A-Jay 2 Quote
Super User PhishLI Posted February 22, 2020 Super User Posted February 22, 2020 I'll have an 09 in Olive by tomorrow. I had go with amazon 'cause BPS's price is off the wall. The suspending lipless cranks are working now, so this bad boy could be special 'round here. Can't wait! Quote
KP Duty Posted February 22, 2020 Posted February 22, 2020 Well....I must pick up this 'sub-walk'. I won a club tourney the first time I used an a-rap...maybe I can duplicate that with the sub-walk. Quote
Super User PhishLI Posted February 26, 2020 Super User Posted February 26, 2020 Today I was able to get to a spot during daylight hours, finally. It was raining, but I needed to see this bait in action and figure out my retrieve. Wow. It's a cross between a glide and a spook and a suspending jerk. Twitch-pause and it'll nearly turn around while suspending. Nice erratic fleeing/dying baitfish action. Also, it casts like a bullet! I'm pumped! Thanks to jimmyjoe for being curious and thanks to A-Jay for spillin' the beans! 4 Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted February 26, 2020 Global Moderator Posted February 26, 2020 I used to have a couple of those lures!!! I might try to hunt them down, I think one of them may have swolen and broken. One is bright yellow or chartreuse on the back and the other is blue Quote
Primus Posted February 26, 2020 Posted February 26, 2020 I have not tried it but the River to Sea ICBM120 Glide bait might be worthy of consideration. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/catpage-RVRTCBTS.html?from=basres 3 Quote
