eatnsleepfishing Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 Any ideas on what batteries would be best for this boat? 2009 Skeeter 190SX 150HPDI and has 70Lb 24 volt Minn trolling moter. I picked up my new Skeeter yesterday but didn't come with batteries. There are so many to pick from.Pro guide sponsors a lot of the tournaments I fish but still don't know what size or brand to get for the boat I have.Of corse the dealer wanted to sell me the $130.00 jobs. Thanks for your help Quote
shortbasser Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 No batteries in a brand new Skeeter? First I ever heard of that. I had 3 batteries in my new Skeeter when I bought it a couple years back. They usually put Deka batteries in it. I switched to Interstate batteries when the Deka's gave up. Been using them for a good many years with good results. Great warranty. I have a pair of SRM-27's for the Motor Guide and a 24M-XHD for the cranking battery and electronics. You need the heavier cranking battery for that HPDI. Any brand of group 27 for trolling motors and a HD group 24 for cranking will do it. Pretty much a standard set-up. Hope you put an on-board charger on it. Only way to keep a good charge on your batteries. Shortbasser Quote
Super User bilgerat Posted December 12, 2008 Super User Posted December 12, 2008 Thats insane. Demand the dealer GIVE you the batteries. Do you buy a car and then pay extra for a battery ? If the dealer won't give you satisfaction, I'd contact Skeeter and see if they shipped the boat to the dealer with a battery. If so, then the dealer ripped you off. I've never bought a new boat but that just does not make any sense to me. Quote
SkeeterZX225 Posted December 13, 2008 Posted December 13, 2008 The dealer is definetely trying to screw you over. Every new boat I've purchased has come with batteries, two of those have been Skeeters Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted December 13, 2008 Super User Posted December 13, 2008 They come with batteries when the dealer sells the boat to an individual, but they are put in at the factory. The dealer should not be expected to pay for them unless he is making some money on the deal. Quote
eatnsleepfishing Posted December 13, 2008 Author Posted December 13, 2008 I bought a sponsorship certificate for 17,000 and got to order color and options I wanted but had to pay 605.00 for the options and shipping.Dealer did not make a dime on it but had to be shipped to them.I can't complain about the price so I don't mind buying batteries. Its would retail for about 25000.Thanks for the help Quote

I would still go back there and have them make it right. At the very least I would file a complaint with the company Quote
Super User Way2slow Posted December 13, 2008 Super User Posted December 13, 2008 If batteries were not included in the package price, what's there to make right??? The man said bought a sponsorship package, they intended on him having a sponsor for his batteries. He said it had to be to be shipped to a dealer, and the dealer wasn't making a dime on the deal, do you really think the dealer is suppose to loose the cost of batteries just because he received it from the manufactor for the guy. As for the batteries, it really depends on how much demand you place on your batteries during a days fishing and how many days a month you fish. If you're heavy into tourney fishing, and can't find a sponsor to supply you batteries, I would go with the Trojan SSC225's on my TM. If you're going to run a 36 volt TM and do like some and use your cranking battery as one of the three needed, then I would go with a biggest, baddest, high quality dual purpose battery I could get. The reason for not going with the SSC225's is they are strickly deep cycle and may not provide the cranking amps needed if you're running one of the big V-6's and all three batteries should be identical type, size, and age when used in a series configuration. If one goes bad, unless very new with less than 25 charges, all three should be replaced as a set, don't just replace the bad one. Now, if you're just a weekend bass chaser, them cheap, big yellow batteries from wally world will work and give you two - three years service. However, if running 36 volt, they still all have to be the same if your only running three batteries in the boat. Quote
