Super User Munkin Posted February 16, 2020 Super User Posted February 16, 2020 How do the Rod Geeks 4 series compare to a St Croix Avid? I want to build 2 spinning rods (610MLXF and 68MXF) and wonder how they compare. Allen Quote
bish0p Posted February 16, 2020 Posted February 16, 2020 From RodGeeks FAQ: Our C2 blanks are the same as St. Croix's SCII, and our C4 is the same as SCIV. We do not have a direct SCIII equivalent because our C4 blanks are even higher performance at great prices. The Avid's use SCIII. The C4's are more sensitive, lighter than the Avids. 1 Quote
Super User S Hovanec Posted February 16, 2020 Super User Posted February 16, 2020 You'll have to step up to SCV to get either of those models now Quote
Super User MickD Posted February 16, 2020 Super User Posted February 16, 2020 You can get the 7 foot MLF in Carbon 4. If you insist on 6-10 then cut the butt off 2 inches, but I'd just leave it alone. For your 6-8, use the 6-6 Carbon 4, adding a 2" butt extension if you insist on 6-6. I'd leave it alone, too. Do not shorten a blank from the tip. Quote
Super User Munkin Posted February 16, 2020 Author Super User Posted February 16, 2020 I have always liked St Croix and wanted to use the SCIV and SCV but never cared for the colored blanks. What I am hoping for in the 4 series Rod Geeks is a little better blank than the Avid in a slate finish. Allen Quote
bish0p Posted February 16, 2020 Posted February 16, 2020 The SCV blanks are made in Park Falls, WI and sent to the Mexican factory. The nice thing is you can have the SCV blanks painted or raw. I don't know if RodGeeks has a slate color option. Quote
Super User MickD Posted February 16, 2020 Super User Posted February 16, 2020 Rodgeeks has an natural blank which is the base price, with colors extra. They are still quite a bargain in color. Quote
Super User Munkin Posted February 17, 2020 Author Super User Posted February 17, 2020 When I say slate I am talking about the natural color of the blank. Allen Quote
Super User MickD Posted February 17, 2020 Super User Posted February 17, 2020 I believe that is what is the base color for Rodgeeks. Check their site for their colors and pricing. Quote
