5/0 Posted February 13, 2020 Posted February 13, 2020 I’ve grown to like this knot for terminal connections, but I have a problem when having to go with more than 6 wraps. I run out of room, the wraps are not close enough. Any tips on how I can get past the 6 wrap obstacle? Or for that matter, do I need more than 6? I know the Palomar option will come up and I do still use it, but the Uni, to me at least, is easier to tie while on the water. Thanks....Joe Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted February 13, 2020 BassResource.com Administrator Posted February 13, 2020 I always use 5 wraps with the Uni. It's worked fine that way for me for more than 4 decades. 1 Quote

Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted February 13, 2020 Super User Posted February 13, 2020 larger loop longer tag end tighter wraps also at the start go through the eye twice for more strength 1 Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted February 13, 2020 Super User Posted February 13, 2020 FWIW, when I use to use a leader, I made 10 wraps on the main line using a uni to uni..Never had any issues. Do what Athlon said ^^^ Quote
Super User JustJames Posted February 13, 2020 Super User Posted February 13, 2020 I use 4-5 wraps for 8lb and above and 6 wraps for 6lb and below. Smaller the line the more wrap needed. Once i get no more room or tag end, I start pull the tag end a little tighter and move my finger to hold closer to the end. Quote
mc6524 Posted February 13, 2020 Posted February 13, 2020 The fish n fool knot is virtually the United knot and I use it all of the time. It calls for 4-5 wraps and I usually use 5. Quote

Super User J Francho Posted February 13, 2020 Super User Posted February 13, 2020 5-6 wraps is plenty for me. Tip: I hold the loop in my left, run the tag through the loop with my right, and hold the tag in my lips, while I position my right for the next run through the loop. I use my lips as a third set of fingers. Quote

Junger Posted February 13, 2020 Posted February 13, 2020 I do 6 loops, I think the key is instead of cinching it down to the hook first, you can pull the wraps up toward the tag end to make sure they're laid next to eachother correctly first, then cinch down. 2 Quote

Super User J Francho Posted February 13, 2020 Super User Posted February 13, 2020 I'll laugh at you I started this when my hands were too cold to work right. Now it's habit. 1 Quote
