After 60+ years of fishing I have to say I consider myself a worm/jig fisherman with spinnerbaits a close second.  That being said, of the 10 or so bass I have managed to catch that were over 6 lbs.....every one was on a crankbait.  I have no explanation for this.

Both are NY fish.  I don't keep track of the out of state PBs, since an 8 lb. from Florida is hardly a trophy.

7-2 LMB: Texas rigged 10" Black Powerworm, 1/2 oz. bullet weight and 5/0 worm hook in 30-ish FOW

5-12 SMB: Drop shot Ayu Cross Tail Shad (flat side up), 3/4 weight and #4 drop shot hook in 40-ish FOW

Interesting 2nd place counter point:

7.1 LMB: Junebug 4" Flick Shake Worm on 3/16 Zappu Wacky jig in less than 1 FOW

I haven't weighed fish for over 30 years, and the only length I pay attention to is the DNR legal limit.  But the 3 biggest bass (not other species) that I've caught were on a Rapala Countdown CD9 (25 years ago), a 1/6th oz. Super Roostertail (first year in the lakes) and a 1oz. Eppinger Dardevle (last year).

Now if we want to talk about other species ..... well, that's another matter entirely.     ?    jj

3 largemouth about 8lbs, one on Texas rig chartreuse pepper zoom swamp crawler, one on buzz bait, and one on a gold silver buddy

smallmouth was probably my avatar fish with a rapala rippin rap but I’ve caught a whole lot of smallmouth about 5.5 lbs and I really have no idea which was PB. Seems like 2 or 3 of them ate rattle trap type lures

Mine was a 9 lb. 3 oz. pre-spawn female on a Rapala jointed floater (J7). I was using 6 lb. mono on a Shimano Symetre 2000 reel and a 6 ft.ML Abu Garcia B.A.S.S. spinning rod. It is a great memory.
