Strike King Caffiene Shad has done well for me when they want it fast. Keitech Shad Impact when they want a more subtle presentation.

In the past I've used slug-go's and jerkbaits from Mister Twister, but I can't remember what they were called.  Now all I use are flukes.

Caffeine shad and Yamamoto D shad are both good. They're a little heavier than the zoom super fluke.

YUM Houdini shad for me. Never bought a bag of Flukes where I didn't get at least a couple that were bent and worthless. Hasn't ever been a problem with the YUMs.

Either Flukes or Caffeine Shads. But I've been wanting to try the Yums.

 

Not same category, but anyone else remember the Strike King Pork-O's? Man those things were MONEY. And lasted forever.

Same here I know you can dip them in boiling water but still a PITA. I am actually really looking for a plastic that is much softer than zoom

-D Shad just gets bites.

-The caffeine shads have an incredible wiggle on the fall & cast amazing. I’ll go as far as saying I don't know of a

plastic that impresses my eyes more than the strike king w/the proper keel weighted hook. Drives big fish in moderate current NUTS when targeting a specific hole or structure. -A bed fishing bait that I like is a modified Manns hardnose fluke. Cut the head w/a razor blade and insert/glue in a tungsten weight... Ive also had great results w/the walmart bargain bin yum houdini shads and Mister Twister “exude” (or something like that) flukes. 

 

- Castaic Jerky J is a buoyant bait w/a larger profile that has its place. Like drawing a reaction strike blind pitching into Shady shore line cover or under docks and then bringing in quickly after the initial entry.

+1 ... Day in and day out - it's tough to beat the gold standard Zoom Super Fluke for cost AND performance ... True , Strike King , Yamamoto, etc.  have their versions that may excel in a certain situation - but cost twice as much . Others that may cost similar (Big Bite Baits , YUM , etc.) do not work as well as the Zoom Super Fluke nor do they have the colors Zoom offers . *I may be biased being from Georgia (Zoom Head Quarters) but as Gerald Swindle once said of the Zoom Super Fluke size & color line up : "If Zoom ain't got it - then you don't need it" !

Arkansas shiner super flukes are my favorites,  but Bass Assassins are also excellent.

Side note:As soon as I buy a new pack of flukes, I put my flukes in a plastic tray, yes the lid warps. The ones that are bent I spend about 10mins altogether, boiling the water dipping the tails.

 

After that all of them work great. Even save tore up baits for chatterbait trailers. Zoom flukes have caught me some kinda bass

Case Sinkin Minnows and Shad. Discovered them last winter and used them all season. Killers! They actually have some sink (obviously with that name) unlike other standard soft jerkbaits I've used. Get into some current and it doesn't matter how long I wait, a fluke is gonna just pop out of the surface.

Case can be popped on top, worked subsurface or paused and fished like a senko.

I've never used the Houdini Shad, but I've got a bag of the Breaking Shad that I guess is being phased out or something, because it's not on their website anymore.

 

I like them about as much as I like a Super Fluke (which is a lot).

 

When I get a bag of flukes I take them out and then I restack them in the bag alternating head/tail orientation. Seems to help straighten the tails out okay. I'll have to ask the fish next time. I'm too lazy to do the water trick when I know they'll just kink back up if I dump them in the bag when I'm done.

Let me know and I point you in the direction of some VERY soft flukes . I know a fella that hand pours them (and just about anything else except tubes). His nickname is softy if that tells you anything!! (These are not all my baits, just pictures of almost all he makes ). All baits float like a cork

A 5 inch Caffeine Shad is another decent soft jerk bait... until you fish it on a 4/0 3/32 oz Owner Twistlock Light hook.  Then it’s the best soft jerk bait ever made...
