papajoe222 Posted February 12, 2020 Posted February 12, 2020 HookRz posted about this knot a couple of years ago and I was recently reintroduced to it. It's a very simple and fast knot to tie, plus I don't need to put my reading glasses on to see what the heck I'm doing. You can check it out here; Quote
Super User Paul Roberts Posted February 12, 2020 Super User Posted February 12, 2020 Nifty. Is this mono to mono only? Quote
apenland01 Posted February 12, 2020 Posted February 12, 2020 I don't fish a leader often, but if I do, this is the knot I use. Braid to fluoro leader knot and it is super simple to tie and holds very well. Quote
Super User ChrisD46 Posted February 12, 2020 Super User Posted February 12, 2020 I like it ! ... Now I can return the $38 third arm assist tool plus the 30 minutes needed to tie the FG Knot (lol !!) Seriously , if this Lefty Kreh knot holds at 90% + and goes thru the rod guides using #10 lb. braid to #8 lb. FC leader - then I definitely would adopt it ! I then would try it with #40 lb. braid to #12 lb. mono for my bait cast top water set up ... This could well be the best tip of the year ! Quote

Super User Team9nine Posted February 12, 2020 Super User Posted February 12, 2020 Google ‘Seaguar knot’ and you’ll see they are the same thing. Not sure where or when it appeared first. I do know RichZ swears by this knot, and at least for a good spell, Ned K did, also. Quote
Bass Junke Posted February 12, 2020 Posted February 12, 2020 This knot was what I used at the beginning of last season and never failed me. Kept hearing about the San Diego jam knot and the Yucatan knot. Switched to the Yucatan knot because I heard good things. First time using the Yucatan I ended up with a squiggley end. I am a pretty good at knots. That was the first knot I think I have had fail. Well that ruined me, took the braid off the spinning reel and haven't used a leader since. Should have just stuck with the Lefty Kreh knot. Quote
Super User Paul Roberts Posted February 12, 2020 Super User Posted February 12, 2020 How heavy a braid/mono could one go and have it slip through rod guides? I'm pretty happy with the FG, but would like one that would be faster --for when my hands are shaking! Quote
Preytorien Posted February 12, 2020 Posted February 12, 2020 Man, that looks a heckuva lot simpler to tie than my usual. I may be giving this a try in the very near future. Quote

Then 50 lb braid on one big pole. Not having to tie leaders is glorious. Never had a knot let me down , I just like more fishing and less piddling Quote

Tackleholic Posted February 12, 2020 Posted February 12, 2020 Lefty Kreh knot is quick and easy, especially while on the water. Only negative I found is that it is a little more bulky than some of the more time consuming knots, thus giving a little "bump" when passing through the guides. Quote

txchaser Posted February 13, 2020 Posted February 13, 2020 For what it's worth, saltstrong tested the six turn surgeon knot as #2 behind the FG. It's really fast to tie unless your leader is more like a topshot, then it's probably not a good pick. Small too, at least on spinning-class braid and leader. It is on my list to test it on my own lines, but the times I've used it and had a break the terminal knot has failed first. It is subjective but I don't think the 6-turn surgeon can take the same beating that an FG can take. Quote
