MDbassin Posted February 11, 2020 Posted February 11, 2020 Are some parts interchangeable. Like can I put a Curado DC handle and drag star on a curado K? Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted February 11, 2020 Super User Posted February 11, 2020 Yep, there are a ton of parts that are. I have replaced different handles, handle nuts, cast control caps, knobs and knob caps. There are also a lot of bearings, brakes, and gears that are as well, but I don't mess with the internals. OnthePotomac Posted February 11, 2020 Posted February 11, 2020 Either check with Delaware Valley Tackle (DVT) on here , or call Shimano in Anaheim for info. Quote

MDbassin Posted February 11, 2020 Author Posted February 11, 2020 Shimano got back with me and was no help whatsoever. My email asked can I put the Curado DC handle and drag star on the Curado K. And there response was "those reels are different sizes the DC is 150 and the K is 200"..... well no dip sherlock I know that and that didnt answer my question at all Update: got another response and they said yes lol dont know what was up with the first email Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted February 11, 2020 Super User Posted February 11, 2020 You could just try it and find out for yourself if you wanted. I have learned a lot of things in my life by actually trying it. Some things will work and some won't, but sometimes you will never know till you try. I realize we live in a day and age where we can send an email and expect a detailed response within no time and an absolute answer to our question. But believe it or not, it hasn't always been that way and people have been doing modifications to things for years and years by simply trying. Quote
Super User JustJames Posted February 11, 2020 Super User Posted February 11, 2020 Most of the handle should be interchangeable, drag star on the other hand some will some won’t. K and DC pretty much the same frame, cast control cap, drag star, gears should be able to swap between them. BTW if I work for Shimano, I wouldn’t recommend anyone to swap parts between each model. It is your solely modification and that might void the warranty. Quote

Super User fishballer06 Posted February 11, 2020 Super User Posted February 11, 2020 All Shimano reels use the exact same handle. So yes, you can put any Shimano handle on any Shimano reel. Quote

I thought I remember reading about it, or maybe I tried it on a Core 50mg7. I don't have any older models to test on or I would see. All newer handles are interchangeable with newer reels though. Shimano baitcasting drive shafts (Tranx being an exception) are all 7mm. In that regard all handles would fit. Swept handles in recent years do pose a problem for older straight drag stars. Sometimes a spacer (available from some aftermarket manufacturers) will allow clearance. I have a Basszone handle on my Curado 100B that's made to clear the drag star. Wasn't too expensive either. 1 Quote

I guess I should have clarified further. ALL Shimano handles have the exact same size crank shaft and the corresponding hole in the crank handle is the same size. Now whether you have a straight/bent handle and/or drag star, those items will need to be matching in order to have proper fitment. Quote
MDbassin Posted February 12, 2020 Author Posted February 12, 2020 I was just wondering. The purpose is solely cosmetic I really like the green handle and drag star on the DC ( think my time on the Marines are to blame for me liking the OD green look) and all there is on the K is the cast control knob. Thought it would look pretty cool to have a black and od green reel Quote

As the other handles are exchangeable for the most part. Just check both schematics in case clickers etc differ Quote
