Super User N Florida Mike Posted February 10, 2020 Super User Posted February 10, 2020 This one was caught in Orange lake, fl. last year, by Brian Hammett. It was the second heaviest fish ever recorded in the Florida trophy catch program. I love fishing Orange and lochloosa lakes , although I don’t get to much anymore. They are very different water bodies, connected by Cross creek. Anyone fish them regularly? 10 Quote

I fished Orange Lake in the beginning of 2019, but in March when Brian caught that big girl, I haven’t been back. The lake has seen a huge uptick in fishing due to his catch. A couple kayak groups I follow moved their tournaments to Orange Lake. The lake continues to produce with a 12+ caught in April, a 13+ in July, a 12+ in October, and a pair of 11+ in December and January. It’s worth the trip if you in the pursuit of DD bass. For me, the 2 hour trip, I’ve got a couple closer lakes that are on fire with DD bass possibilities. Gotta get some runs in at Fellsmere before they open the boat ramp. 1 Quote
NittyGrittyBoy Posted February 10, 2020 Posted February 10, 2020 That's the only bad thing about publicizing a big catch, it'll get flooded out. Even by your close friends. Nice bass though! Quote

Even by your close friends. Nice bass though! Yep! The local lake I fish has some big fish in it. Last year a guy caught a 13 out of there and he was showing pics to the lady that runs the lake store. She wanted him to send her the pics so she could put them on Facebook. He was like "Nah, I will pass" LOL. I know she wanted to post it to boost her income but he knew better. Of course she can tell people about it, but nothing like putting a pic on the internet for all to see. 1 Quote
