Budget Crank bait/ Chatterbait rod

Hey guys, i am looking for a decent chatterbait and crankbait rods for around 50-70 bucks. I dont plan on using in cranks that go deeper then 8'. Thanks!

For my bladed jigs, I use an H2O Xpress Ethos 6'6" MH. I don't feel like I need a crankbait rod for them. I use the same rod for throwing 3/8-1/2oz spinnerbaits and buzzbaits. On this rod, I have a 6.5:1 Piscifun SAEX Premier (same as my Ardent Apex reels) and 12lb YZH.

Med/Mod Lightning Rod although I'm not sure I would use the same rod for those two presentations. You probably want a faster tip for chatterbaits.

Until I got a dedicated crankbait rod, I threw them on the same rod as my chatter/spinnerbaits. 7' Aird-X MH/F...though if you're tossing smaller ones, a M/F would probably work as well.

 

For a Mod rod - a Dobyns Colt 705CB is just a little over your range - $79

I was able to find a Quantum KVD Tour Crankbait rod on eBay for $65 + shipping.  Great rod for the money.

Get the 7' MH - since it's designed for braid, it has a nice bend that will help keep those hooks pinned. I used the previous model for years until I thought I needed a dedicated rod. I didn't. Sold it & went right back to the Shock.

I hear this iteration is crap. The regular lightning rod (not shock) are pretty darn good but I've heard nothing but horror stories about the orange rods. Lots of reports of cracking plastic.

I have a 13 Fishing Defy Black Crankbait rod, 7'3 Heavy Power / Moderate Action that weighs less than my Dobyns Champion Glass 705 MH and is even balances better by a good amount. It's a composite rod, full cork handle, cost about $60 at full price, and is great for chatterbaits. I may go down to a Medium Heavy if you're going to throw cranks on it also.

 

Another one that I like is a good old Ugly Stik GX2. It's another glass composite rod and very strong for $40 retail. I've caught hundreds of smallies using one, on a whopper plopper and even caught some on a chatterbait the few times I've thrown it.

If you decide to up your budget a little ($99)these are on sell right now and make a great shallow/medium crank rod. Also the tip is perfect working 1/2oz topwater walking  baits like Spook jrs.

7' mh lightning rod shock is what I use for both bank fishing or from my kayak.

For $59 the 13 Defy cranking rods are an excellent value.

+2---i also have a 7'6 mh fast that i throw swimbait tokyo rigs on. one of the best bang for buck deals out there
