Since this has to do with a kayak, I figured I'd post it here.

I am looking for a decent rubber fishing net, ideal for a kayak.  I have looked all around, seeing some anywhere from $20-$100.  I certainly don't need anything hi-tech, but also don't want junk.  I've been eye-balling the yak attack collapsible net ($90), not crazy about that price.  I think that's overkill for me.  Especially for the amount of use it would get.  Would like to stay as far away from that $90 price range as possible

Anyone care to share the rubber net they use on their kayak?

Here is a link to the yak attack net - https://www.yakattack.us/leverage-landing-net-12-x-20-hoop-with-foam-extension-lln122047k/

The biggest use for me is the 1-2 tourneys I might do a year, as well as if I were to catch a toothy critter that I need to prepare to release

I have the Yak Attack net, I love it for landing fish but the shape of the handle does make it get in the way when not in use for me since I like to keep it on front of me where I can reach it easily.

I now use a Kryptek S1 Gensis rubber coated net.  I love it.

58 bucks on Amazon, fits snugly in a rod holder.  I sometimes feel disadvantaged if a bass goes on a run at the boat and wish I had a longer handle.  However, when I did use a longer handle it was annoying.  Pick your poison.

I use a BPS folding net. It’s $19.95, fits under my seat and deploys with a ‘flick’.

Treble hooks don’t often get tangled in it.

I was watching this thread throughout the day, seeing the nets others have shown.  I went to BPS to pick up a spinning rod and just happened to walk around the nets.  I came across this one, it was on sale for $10 (22").  It has a nylon coating, rather than a true rubber.  I'll see how it handles on the water.  If it does happen to be junk, then I will upgrade as needed.  Certainly didn't plan on this net when I was there. It sorta just popped up, and obviously I liked the price

I searched for the perfect net.  turns out I needed to make one.  I keep it on the nose of my kayak, so the handle HAS to be long enough for me to lean forward and grab.  I made two.  first version is from a Frabil that cost me $14.  I used PVC for the handle and it is okay.  it floats since I filled the handle with expanding foam.  I had to trim the handle down by whittling it down with a razor blade and did some final sanding.  JBweld glued it in tight.  it was a tight fit to begin with.

I thought I lost it when I imagined it bounced out of my truck.  my wife found it and put in on the hedge..where I found it right after i.....

....ordered and made another one.  I knew what I liked before, so I went about improving it.  I used a G2 net and used an old aluminum pole from a bent up pool cleaning wand.  I cut out the unbent section and it was perfect length for me = 30".  same JBweld, but the handle wasn't as tight to begin with so I counter sunk two screws for added insurance.  I had leftover WINNS wrap so I just used it.  that stuff isn't cheap, so buying a lime green roll was tough to stomach. the aluminum handle makes it so light!!  it is awesome.  narrower handle as well, so it is more comfy.

here is the deal.  I take pride in NOT spreading Zebra Mussels, so I sealed both nets.  siliconed the holes in the handle and filled them with foam.  they both float.  not sure which one I like better.  the black one, the frabil fits my HOBIE COMPASS better because I can stuff it under the net up front. the green one has to sit on top.  I haven't had one go overboard yet, but they float anyways.

I bet I spent  $45 total for the first one, and the same for the second one since I already owned the glue, wrap, etc.  but it would have been more since the net cost more (amazon)

I love my two nets.  big bass fit better in the green one.

I tried an inexpensive Plusinno brand telescopic, folding, floating net I found on Amazon to use in my kick boat.  I got the  middle size, which is what I'd call "trout" size, but with a bit of a telescoping extension on the handle.  The larger one has a longer telescoping section as well as a larger hoop.

I've netted a couple of oversized (for the net) fish with it and it seem like it's going to last a while.  I really like it.

Up front in the bow straps for the Hobie. In the Commander, basically anywhere since there's way more room than I'd ever need.

I got the YakAttack net mainly because I can stick it in a Zooka II rod holder for storage.

If I had a better storage solution for it, I would look at the Frabil Bear Claw net though. That's really well designed for kayakers.

Hey, just curious what you think of this net by now? I was looking at them tonight at Cabelas and they seem pretty decent.

I got this rubber net at Sportsman’s Warehouse made by Ranger Products. It’s 17” across with a 30” handle. Around $30
I like a all rubber net over the dipped. Treble hooks would still go through the dipped just like a nylon net.
I have a stand assist bar on my kayak so I can’t just lay it on the front. I came up with this placement using a YakAttack paddle holder so it sits along the side. I have a lightweight bungee cord holding it in place. All I do is grab the handle and lift and the bungee pops off

I spent a while looking at different nets trying to balance price, net size, handle length, etc. I finally decided on the ForEverlast net and I haven't been disappointed.

I can keep it behind my seat or up in front just ahead of the pedal unit, but it's much easier to grab when it's up front. I know some may prefer a longer handle, but let's face it - landing a decent sized fish on a kayak is usually a pain no matter what.
