billmac Posted February 5, 2020 Posted February 5, 2020 I've caught crappie in various places as one-offs, but I've never really found where they congregate in sufficient numbers to target them. I know Black Lake has them. Anyplace else in the vicinity where they have sufficient numbers? Quote
Super User J Francho Posted February 5, 2020 Super User Posted February 5, 2020 This could be a whole forum unto itself. The short answer: I've caught black crappie in just about every lake or pond I've fished in NY state. Pre-spawn is a good time to find them shallow. During bass spawn, they are well known nest raiders. Tiny jigs, crappie minnows (fatheads), and tiny cranks do well. Quote

Super User J Francho Posted February 5, 2020 Super User Posted February 5, 2020 Depends. Could be early May, to early June. Depends on the weather. Quote
