Matt_3479 Posted February 5, 2020 Posted February 5, 2020 Thinking about trying a 1000 size reel and wondering what’s your thoughts. Reel would be the stradic FL. I have a 2500 fk and it’s just a touch heavy for the rod and love the feel of the stradic. Was going go with another ci4+ but want to try the new fl and it matches the expride so beautifully!! Rod is mainly my ned rig rod running 8lbs max normally 6 or 15lbs braid to a leader. Quote
Jaybert Posted February 5, 2020 Posted February 5, 2020 Do it. I got a new 1000 fl. Very solid and smooth. No chance to use it till spring but it is a sweet little reel. not much difference from my ci4 really in weight and might even be smoother. Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted February 5, 2020 Super User Posted February 5, 2020 I like 1000 size reels. I'm not worried about what will happen should I connect with a monster fish, It has happened a few times and I landed the fish and drag wasn't an issue. Right now the only situation where I don't use a 1000 size reel is for throwing lightweight cranks and jerk baits, where I think the bigger & wider spool make enough of a difference distance wise that I can live with the extra weight. LCG Posted February 5, 2020 Posted February 5, 2020 I have the 2500 FL. The 1000 was a but small for me but it should serve you well. I just always have that thought of not having enough line should you hook into something bigger. But I am a multi species angler. If just going for bass you should be fine. For what it's worth I put on 140 yds of 20lb braid, suffix 832. The reel is quite impressive. My first Shimano and as long as it holds up well, it won't be my last. It really is a beautiful reel, if you care about that. Quote
Yumeya Posted February 6, 2020 Posted February 6, 2020 I use a 1000 Stradic CI4+ for ice fishing and its my favorite ice combo. Through the years the Stradic reels have always been good to me.... The CI4+ 1000 will be a bit lighter then the 1000 FL Quote
Super User GreenPig Posted February 6, 2020 Super User Posted February 6, 2020 I fish Ned/Dropshot/light swimbaits with my 1000 Ci4+ and it's very nice. 1 Quote
TBAG Posted February 6, 2020 Posted February 6, 2020 I only have a few spinning setups but my ned rig specific combo is a 702sf and older Shimano Sahara 1000. It's awesome to fish and has caught several nice sized bass. While it doesn't compare to my 2500 Stradic Ci4+ as far as smoothness goes it's still great. So, yeah go for it, the 1000 size reels are pretty sweet. Quote
Matt_3479 Posted February 6, 2020 Author Posted February 6, 2020 Awesome thank you! I’m definitely curious on how it should balance out. I have 2 ci4’s and 1 ci4+ and the stradic fk and love all the reels. The ci4+ is amazingly light and is so much fun to fish on the nrx 852 and balances beautifully on the expride but the fk and fl just match so much better, Quote
