Went fishing today with only 2 rods, Neko and Ned. Lol kinda comical.

I had a terrible time with the Neko rig hanging, was fishing points all day.

Actually broke off 5 times and never hung the Ned.

How about the same concept, weight in head but no O ring and hooked Texas ?

OR just using a snag less hook ?

There's the "chicken rig" that removes the exposed hook from the Neko equation. You could try that.

I'm partial to a micro jig for that kind of stuff though.

Ooh, you have a fancy rig there!

Lol, my own modified Chicken Rig but it works.  Yum Genie worm and a VMC Neko Skirt.

How is it in weedy lakes compared to a traditional t-rig?

When you hook the O-ring, is the hook point facing towards the tail? Usually with hook point facing away, the shank and line act like a weedguard.

If I’m fishing shallow water like Toho or Fellsmere where hydrilla is an issue, there is a Gammy hook that I’ve found to really helpful. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Gamakatsu_G-Finesse_Stinger_Weedless_Wacky_Hook_4pk/descpage-GSWWN.html

I don’t use an O-ring when I fish a Neko rig, just run the hook through the egg sack on a Senko or trick worm.

Yes, I hook from head to tail but that leaves hook point towards head.

I'm not an Neko expert and tying 5 Alberto knots in the wind in one afternoon may prevent that desire. Lol

Watched a Brent Ehrler's video and seems I was over-rotating the hook, I'll try again.

Really wanted to catch one on the Neko today instead of the Ned. Lol

I don’t use the skirt in heavier weed cover, just a regular nail weight.  A Texas rig is still more weedless especially when fishing more horizontally, but the Chicken Rig is pretty close..

Here is a picture of how I hook the worm and the specific Gammy hook I mentioned (line and worm were just what I had laying around for the example). Sometimes seeing it makes it easier.

I fish a wacky rig a lot, and when the fish want the bait on the bottom, it is easily converted to the Neko rig by inserting the nail weight. Both the wacky and Neko are more weedless for me than the open hook Ned head, which I constantly foul in the grass. I’ve been looking at the Nichols Ned heads with weedguards as JT fishes them down here, but as of right now, don’t have any Ned heads in my tackle.

Why not just TX rig it? Very similar presentation with better weedless/snagless performance.

It's a lot easier to have the right setup for the conditions instead of forcing the conditions on your setup.

This ^^  rigging (I like with an  o-ring catching some worm skin when rigged)  ... Use a weedless VMC Neko Hook size #2 !

Google up “Decoy Worm 128 Neko Rig Hook”, it’s a weedless option. I actually have a couple packs of them but I’ve never thrown them.
