Super User OkobojiEagle Posted February 1, 2020 Super User Posted February 1, 2020 Looking for reviews from owners of the new Fenwick Techna rods, especially if you can compare the new rods to the previous Techna AV models. oe Quote
Finessegenics Posted February 1, 2020 Posted February 1, 2020 Been looking for the same too...I couldn’t find much reviews anywhere, only some on walleye forums. Quote

Super User A-Jay Posted February 1, 2020 Super User Posted February 1, 2020 There's a few on the Fenwick Page ~ http://www.fenwickfishing.com/fenwick-freshwater-rods-fenwick-techna/fenwick-techna-casting-rod/1509850.html#specifications http://www.fenwickfishing.com/fenwick-freshwater-rods-fenwick-techna/fenwick-techna-spinning-rod/1509851.html#start=1 A-Jay Quote
Super User OkobojiEagle Posted February 1, 2020 Author Super User Posted February 1, 2020 I'm a little skeptical about reviews from the manufacturer's website... I handled a couple of the rods in the factory outlet store. They were very "soft" compared to the 6 original Techna AVs I own. Looking for someone's opinion who has time on the water with them bass fishing. oe 1 Quote

Super User OkobojiEagle Posted February 2, 2020 Author Super User Posted February 2, 2020 Mike... don't get too impressed. I had an 11 year stint I worked (part time, 2nd evening job) in the Berkley bait/line factory. Between extra spending money for my girls during their college years and the company store, my wife didn't see a dime from it support our family budget! oe 1 Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted February 2, 2020 Global Moderator Posted February 2, 2020 Gotcha! But Still..... If you ever decide to thin out your inventory of any casting, let me know. ? Mike Quote
humbleangler Posted February 10, 2020 Posted February 10, 2020 Bumping this thread...I took a gamble and just placed an order on the 6'3" ML XF spinning model without handling it first. I had some BPS gift cards and while I've been focused on upgrading my Casting arsenal over the last year, I realized my Spinning rod arsenal was lacking in both quality and variety...cheap broomsticks for catfish or UL's for panfish. Long story short, I haven't owned a Fenwick since my very first casting rod from the mid 90's and although there were some safer bets at the price point (St. Croix Avid X, Loomis E6X, Shimano Zodias and Curado), I loved the combination of the full cork handle, exposed blank in the reel seat, the 6'3" length, and MLXF power/speed offerings... I'd love to hear some reviews, good or bad. Quote
OG Crankster Posted February 10, 2020 Posted February 10, 2020 Amazon has some killer deals on some Fenwick rods right now. My 6'3, MLXF World Class showed up today and my 6'6 MF Techna will be here on Tuesday. The World Class was 130.00 and the Techna was 90.00. There are other rods with great pricing too. Quote

OG Crankster Posted February 10, 2020 Posted February 10, 2020 Scroll through the options. Amazon is strange. As soon as you buy a rod at a cheap price, they go back to almost normal retail prices. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07TTSJVSQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&th=1&psc=1 Quote
humbleangler Posted February 16, 2020 Posted February 16, 2020 Water still hard here, so haven't fished it yet, but great initial impression. Never handled an AV, but love the feel of this rod. Extremely lightweight and power more "light" vs. "medium light" in the tip, but JUST the tip...plenty of backbone, maybe even rated down half a step when taken as a whole. Balances very nicely with a 1000 size, 7.6 oz. Shimano Syncopate. Handle is extremely comfortable with lots of contact with the blank and reel seat is nice and tight. My ONLY complaint is that the handle is a little long...granted I do like shorter handles on spinning rods in general, but this seems especially excessive...16 inches to the top of the reel seat where cork meets blank and a full 12 inches from the butt to the reel handle. Anyway, I can get used to the long handle considering everything else is spot on. Quote

Steelhead52 Posted March 17, 2020 Posted March 17, 2020 I really like the new Techna line so far but the only one of the three I have for Bass Fishing is the 6'8" medium fast action casting rod matched up with a Daiwa Tatula for Smallmouth. It's a great all around rod. My others are specialized. I have the 5'8" ultralight spinning rod for trout and it has probably the nicest action for all around trout fishing of any ultralight I have ever used and I have some high end Loomis rods to compare to. The other casting rod I have I just started using for Musky and its a great rod. It's the 8' Heavy fast action 20-50 lb test that I got on one of those killer Amazon deals. Quote

I didn't...at the time, the price was fluctuating wildly depending on the model...and the 6'3" spinning was not one of the cheap options (near full price)...plus, was burning Bass Pro gift cards.
