GaterB Posted January 31, 2020 Posted January 31, 2020 Hello all! My girlfriend surprised me with a weekend trip to a fish camp on the St Johns for my birthday. We’re a short (small) boat ride from Little Lake George to the south. Any tips on what the fish are doing in this area right now? Thanks in advance for any advice! Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted February 3, 2020 Super User Posted February 3, 2020 I used to fish down there some. Don’t have any recent reports though. Ask the folks at the fish camp. I know a lot of people fish the spring runs off lake George this time of year because the water is warmer. You can catch a variety of species in the “ croaker hole” which is on the west side of little lake George. I think it’s a 40-50 foot deep hole there. I stayed at the fish camp at Welaka before. And launched there a few times as well. Came in 3rd in a tournament mostly fishing the pads in the river between Lake George and lake little lake George. Used worms primarily. Make sure to give us a report! Mike Quote
KHNC Posted February 4, 2020 Posted February 4, 2020 Bass will be on the beds by mid month, if not already. Be prepared for literally 100's of bass fishermen sight fishing them. Both of the springs will be SLAM full of people sight fishing. I always did better fishing the coves and docks on the river. There is a coontail moss looking type grass growing in the pads. I would spend time hitting those areas with spinnerbaits and floating worms. And of course, be ready to sight fish if you see a good one on a bed. Quote
GaterB Posted February 6, 2020 Author Posted February 6, 2020 Awesome information gentlemen! Unfortunately we didn’t have any luck this time around. Was pretty windy and our small rental boat got blown around so we stayed off the main channel. Looked for bedding fish but didn’t find them. Had a couple bites on Swimbaits in the pads but didn’t connect. Still a ton of fun and saw some amazing wildlife out there. Will definitely be back! Quote

I’m anxious to see what those guys will catch. I saw a few guys out practicing when we were packing up to leave last Sunday (Livesy, Crews were the ones I recognized) 2 Quote
