Super User new2BC4bass Posted February 9, 2020 Super User Posted February 9, 2020 Steelhead, you mean you don't have your rods and reels listed in a file? These combos remain together: 6' MH Berkley Lightning - Cabela's Prodigy (older gray Daiwa made reel) 7' MLF Fenwick HMG - tuned TD-Z 105H Abu Fantasista Regista 6’10” MLF - Daiwa Procyon 2000 Major Craft Benkei 6’7” LF - Daiwa BG 1500 Berkley Lightning 6’ MLF - Penn 430SS Fenwick River Runner 7'2" L - Daiwa-S 1500CU Fenwick Elite Tech 7' MF - Daiwa TD Sol 2500 Rest can vary, but I don't switch around much and don't have current pairings listed. Reels from Abu, BPS, Daiwa, Lew's, Okuma, Pflueger, Pinnacle, 13 Fishing, Shimano. Rods from 13 Fishing, Abu, Airrus, ALX, Ark, Batson, Berkley, Cabela's, Daiwa, Dobyns, Falcon, Fenwick, Field & Stream, Hammer, iRod, Lew's, Major Craft, Megabass, Olympic, Okuma, Phenix, Powell, Quantum, Shimano, St. Croix and Witch Doctor. Looks like a lot of rods, but many only have one sample. Combined baitcast and spinning rods and reels total less than 100 so I am a long ways from having what a lot of guys store in their boat, garage, man cave, etc. Quote

Mr.C in Texas Posted February 9, 2020 Posted February 9, 2020 I’m keeping it simple this year. I sold a bunch of setups I don’t use. I mostly inshore wade/kayak or bank/kayak for bass. I travel as light as possible. Spinning -Custom Laguna inshore wade fishing 6’10 ML paired with a Stradic 3000 ci4+ (doubles as freshwater fineness) -Penn Battle II 7’ MH paired with Battle II 2500 (collecting dust) Casting -Dobyns Champion XP 703 paired with a Shimano SLX XT -Dobyns Champion XP 735 paired with another Shimano SLX XT Quote

The drag is really nice, those HT100 washers are nice and smooth. I'd really like to get a bigger size for another rod I have lying around. I have one of the older 9' Guide Series light powered rods from Gander Mountain. Back then, Fenwick made that rod for them, the action is great and it's perfect for throwing light baits. It's a moderate fast action steelhead rod, but I use it wading the Thumb on Huron smallmouth fishing. It'll cast a 1/4oz tube jig a mile, that comes in handy fishing the shallows of Huron for spring smallies. Quote

Yes, I really like that they included the HT100 drag washers in the Fierce III, apparently it is basically a Battle II now so I will be interested to see what the Battle III is going to offer. Heck, even the Pursuit III (which is a nice little reel for the money, btw) has the HT100 washers in there now so it looks like Penn is almost totally off of felt except the new Wrath reels. Also, I polished the metal washers in my Fierce II and I noticed a distinct drag smoothness increase. Even more than just doing the carbontex upgrade. Definitely worth doing for light line applications. I have a 7' heavy action Gander rod that I really like, reminds me of an older Fenwick HMG, maybe they built that one too. Be sad when that one gets retired because there aren't any more of them. Quote
Super User Columbia Craw Posted February 9, 2020 Super User Posted February 9, 2020 For rods I have a passel of Dobyns, a smidgen of Diawas, a pair of Cousins and a Lobo Marange' Lamiglas. For reels I have some Lews, Diawas and Shimanos. I ain't listing it all and I don't do spread sheets. 1 Quote

I don’t mind the rod, it balances well, feels pretty good and loads of power. I use it for Carolina rigs, weighted t-rigs, whopper ploppers. I just feel like for the money there’s better rods and want to try others. Quote

I'm actually pulling a couple rigs out of 'retirement'. Pflueger 640 - did maintenance on it this morning and it's still as smooth as almost-new. Going to mount that on a Diawa 1312 - 6'6" Medium-Light/Fast 2piece...this thing is almost as old as the 640, but only needed a little cleanup and a coat of UB-40 on the handle. Cardinal 562 - that's next in line for the maintenance. Haven't decided between the 6'0" M/F 2pc Ugly Stick or the 6'0" L/M 2pc Berkley Enforcer In any case, the Avocet is re-designated for the canoe arsenal - giving me 9 rigs there. The 640 and 562 are going to be my shore-fishing rigs. For a guy who only had 3 rigs three years ago - now I'll have 11 rigs...where will it end? Quote
