Speaking of critters !!

Had the craziest thing happen last night.

Sitting on back porch, kept hearing this high pitched squeal in the yard so ran up to the noise.

A shrew repeatedly came up from the grass and was biting on my shoe.

It turned into a frenzy as the little critters were running everywhere.

Party ended when the Border Collie arrived on scene.......Shrew carcasses lying around everywhere.

1st for everything.

Not sure why it took me this long to find this thread.  Very intriguing for some reason.  Took a few days to read through it, but seems to be a lack of residential rabbit catches.

My wildlife trapping extent was needing a source of skulls mounts for a mammology class that I procrastinated on(was planing on picking up roadkill).  Setup some snap traps out in the back field on rodent trails and whacked a deer mouse and meadow vole.  Picking those skulls 3 days before they were due was a poor choice.

We rarely get any complaints about rabbits. They are also very tricky to catch in a cage so i prefer never trying to begin with

I watch them terrorize the neighborhood back yard gardens.  Majority of people have no idea what to do about them so I figure there had to be a market for it.

Our services cost way more than veggies haha.

there would definitely be a market but I typically work in subdivisions where gardens aren’t allowed

It's as simple as an 18" tall wire fence around the beds to keep rabbits out.

You would be amazed how foreign that thought is to some people.

Pretty much! I tell customers all the time that trapping is like fishing, I can’t just wave a magic wand and catch them all first night (or spread magic moth balls and chase them away first night either)

sometimes just setting a trap scares the critter or way, or at least seems to. In reality it probably got ran over or eaten by a hawk

We had a neighborhood cat that controlled the mole/ vol population. When the

cat passed away three weeks ago my yard became infested. However, we have

a nesting pair of split tail hawks  and another pair of red tails in the neighborhood.

As of last weekend our problem has been solved. We'll see how long this lasts.

I just saw two rats frolicking in my back 40. I'll be putting out delicious rat treats for them tonight.
