I recently purchased a Dobyns champion 705sf for my son to throw frogs and top water on. My question is what model tatula lt to go with for what im going to assume will be 50lb smackdown or maxquartro? Will the deep spool 3000 be enough to not unspool the reel on decently long frog/plus casts? Will braid that heavy come off a spinning reel good? Sorry, I'm only used to 12-15lb braid on spinning reels as all my heavy stuff is casting

That line is probably going to be around 12 pound diameter, you should get you a solid 220 yards onto it according to that chart, I wouldn’t worry about it, I’d actually put mono filler first then top it off with 150 yards of braid to save cost. With the tatula being as light as they are I wouldn’t rule out the 4000 size either.

IMO, you don't have to go to 50lb to frog with, it's just what is best suited for casting reels. I have 20 and 30 pound braid on a couple different casting reels, and have used both for frogging and it works fine, sometimes better because it cuts through certain kinds of weeds easier. Obviously in really heavy stuff, you might have to go to heavier line, but I don't think you're going to lose many fish on 30lb that you'd land on 50lb.

For something like frogging, I'd go with a 4000 size reel. A 7.4oz reel isn't heavy at all, and a good amount more drag, probably balance the rod a bit better as well.

One of my buddies throws frogs on a medium heavy spinning rod with 30lb braid and catches plenty. I can't imagine 50lb being managable on a spinning reel.

Same here as with Rich's comment. 50 seems so very unnecessary, so much overkill. 30 better, heck even much, much less would be okay. Better handling on a spinning reel than 50. For 50, I'd want a 4000+ series for sure.

I the tatula lt the 4000 doesn't hold more than the 3000. Also, I've broken off a bunch of frog fish on 40lb smackdown on casting gear. That's why I brought it up
