One mold 3 lures

So I have been making chatter baits from a do it Arkie mold. The Smaller arkies work pretty good for a chatter bait.  The 1/4 and 3/8 works really well.  The 1/2 seems like It plains out and rides up to much when I’m trying to fish deep.  I would also like to possibly make swim jigs and swim bait jigs. 
 

I have done some research online and tackle underground. Seems like the snootie         Or poison jig should work at least for the latter two.  I would imagine it would work well for a chatter bait also. For a swim and chatter baits I wouldn’t use weed guards 
 

is the main differnce between the poison and snootie jig just the hook?  What other differences are there? Or maybe another jig or mold to look at. I guess if I couldn’t get a mold to do all 3.  I could get one for 2of 3 than buy the third type of jig  from some one else.

The Snootie jig is one I really like, I use it for grass. For what you want, the Poison Tail, that is the most versatile jig there is. The Snootie uses a heavy wire 60 degree hook, the Poison Tail uses a lighter 30 degree hook, not a light wire but lighter than the Snootie. The Poison Tail has a wider rocker style bottom so you can use it as a regular casting jig and drag it along the bottom. You can also swim it as the line tie being out front allows it to swim level and track straight with the pull of the line. It will do what the Snootie jig can do and then some, the only problem for some is it uses a 30 degree hook that isn't super heavy. The Snootie uses a 60 degree hook but because the line tie is right at the nose it will swim level and track with the line pull as well, the major issue is if you want the jig to drag on bottom, the head doesn't allow for that. It is great for actively fishing, what I mean by that is you pitch it to cover, let it fall and hit bottom and then hop it or jig it along the bottom, it is a killer jig when you need a reaction bite. It has a unique fall which makes it great to get reaction strikes, it fall straight down but the jig is angled so it falls on front part of the belly and not on the line tie, it really makes the skirt shimmy as it falls. I modified my Snootie mold to take a wire keeper because it uses a ball style collar so without a keeper the trailer had nothing to hold it secure but it is a really good jig but the poison Tail is more versatile.

    I see you decided to pour some of your own jigs. Congrats. I see smalljaw67 pretty much answered your question. The only thing I would add is a different mold that might help you use all three sizes for your chatterbait. Try the Do-It SPJ-3-ATK Pro Swim Jig Mold. You don't have to use the Trokar hooks if you don't want to, other sizes will fit. Since it is similar in profile to the Snootie jig, it works well. Also it has a flat eye, so one split ring will work really well to connect the blade to the head.

Yes finally just bit the bullet and bought the Arkie mold last year.  It was responsible for catching my Pb large mouth last year.  Put a pbj skirt on it with summer craw rage tail.  I still have a bunch of your football jigs that I want to use this year. 
 

actually I found that swim bait mold on lurepartsonline like 30 minutes after I posted this.  I think your Right that it could be the best one to use. I forgot about needing a flat eye and I was just looking at my chatter baits yesterday too   I don’t want zman kicking in my door hahaha

I think if I went this route I would get the snootie. I have mold For dragging at the moment and it seems like the snootie came in sizes I would use more.  
 

Seems like if I remember right the poison came in smaller or bigger sizes and neither had a 1/2 oz size.  I dunno if I’d need 3/4 and 1 oz chatter baits, swim jigs, swim bait jigs

I finally pulled the trigger. Purchased the bigger poison tail mold PTJ-3-AFM from LPO that makes 1/2, 3/4, and 1 oz.  Hopefully be here early next. I would think it would make a decent punching jig at the bigger sizes with its pointy face.  They are the verticals line ties so I may buy the blades from TW that allow you to connect directly to the eye.  I don’t plan on selling any so I should be ok.  
 

Also lucked in to a crap ton of skirts for 40 bucks off of face book.  I’d say rough estimate of 15-20 tabs per colors and I think there were like 8-10 colors.  Also bought some black with red fire tipped skirts from LPO.  In my mind I have an idea for a good looking red chatter bait, I think

I love my poisontail mold. I have modified it to make spinnerbaits as well. They work great. 1/8 oz head is really good for hair as well

I saw modifying the mold to make spinner baits on Facebook.  How hard is that? Obviously you have to do some aluminum

It’s not difficult, I used a dermal tool. I placed the wire where I wanted it then put a wood block on top of the mold and hit it with a hammer. The wire indented where I needed to channel with the Dremel

if i need to fill in a gap or do something diff i just use plumbers putty to control where i want my lead. I know alot of guys use rvt

It came along with hooks for this and my Arkie mold.  Bought some 3D eyes.  Havnt use them yet.  Need to get some epoxy.  Might play around with it tommrow night or Monday.
