Super User Fishes in trees Posted January 24, 2020 Super User Posted January 24, 2020 I've found that the best thing to do is to carry several pairs. I like a set of neoprene gloves ( that fit good) for when the boat is running. When I'm fishing, I carry several pairs of fingerless wool gloves or, in a pinch, the brown jersey gloves and with the brown jersey gloves I trim the fingers to fit as necessary. When they get wet, just put on and trim up another pair. I got one pair of fingerless polar fleece gloves that seem to take longer to get wet than the brown jersey gloves do, but once they get wet, you need another pair. Fishing with kinda damp fingerless gloves is ok, but once they get to wet it is unpleasant. 3 Quote

Long cold trips across big water sort of demand it but I hate actually fishing in gloves. Try to hold out as long as I can but after a while I usually end up caving in and put a pair on. Preference is for finger less models and I change them out when they get wet. I agree its nice when your moving at a higher speed but when its time to pick up the rod, I prefer bare hands. The "feel" of rod and reel just isn't there with gloves on. 2 Quote

LargeMarge Posted January 26, 2020 Posted January 26, 2020 If you want thin, waterproof, and warm, the best solution is probably just a thin latex or nitrile glove over a thinner insulating glove of your choice. I've got some thin north face gloves that fit perfectly but are not windproof or waterproof, so the "outer shell" of the nitrile gloves makes up for it. Still a very thin combo so I have the dexterity to do what I need to do. Plus if you rip one they are super cheap to replace. Most gloves are not able to have all three properties (thin/waterproof/warm) at the same time. 1 1 Quote
