Nepatizz Posted January 24, 2020 Posted January 24, 2020 Hello! I was wondering if there would be any negative consequences of leaving fresh fluorocarbon or braided line on my fishing reels (spinning and baitcast) for 3 or 4 months before the pre-spawn? They would be kept in appropriate temperatures around 70 degrees and untouched. I am wondering if this would stretch out and hinder the fluorocarbon because it would be sitting untouched for a while. I'm not sure about the braid. Any reason I shouldn't do this? I wanna make my set ups now but this popped in to my mind. Thanks! Quote
NittyGrittyBoy Posted January 24, 2020 Posted January 24, 2020 3-4 months in optimal conditions is plenty fine for braid. Cant answer for flouro Quote
FishinBuck07 Posted January 24, 2020 Posted January 24, 2020 I would definitely not worry about the braid, but the flouro, I don't use it much but would think that wouldn't be the best for it. I may be wrong though Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted January 24, 2020 Super User Posted January 24, 2020 I dunno about FC as I don't use it - but I'll be going into my second year with the braid on my Fuego and the YZH on my UL-rig. My reels sit idle from mid-September to mid-April (or later depending on ice-out). I would recommend treating the FC with KVD Line and Lure Conditioner. Initial when you spool up, then a quick spritz the evening before you're heading out to fish. Quote
Super User Team9nine Posted January 24, 2020 Super User Posted January 24, 2020 If you are using a decent brand of line, you should be just fine. I typically get 2 or 3 seasons out of my fluoro outfits, and in Indiana we always have weeks or even months of down time due to winter ice. Braid - easy to get many years out of braid if you choose to do so, so no issues there. 3 1 Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted January 24, 2020 Global Moderator Posted January 24, 2020 90% of my combos are flouro. As long as you use a quality product as @Team9nine said, and use some spray (KVD Line and Lure) if you need it, you won’t need to change it out because of down time. Mike Quote
scbassin Posted January 24, 2020 Posted January 24, 2020 As has been said put a good helping of KVD line & lure on the F/C the night before your going to use them & you will be fine. 1 Quote

I don't use FC myself - but I do use KVD on both mono and YZH...don't go casting without it. Quote
Jaderose Posted January 24, 2020 Posted January 24, 2020 Yep...get some KVD. I thought the KVD love was nonsense until I actually got some. It works and you'll be fine Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted January 24, 2020 Super User Posted January 24, 2020 On my bubba drop shot rig, I have some 20 lb Abrazx that has been on for 3 years for sure, maybe more, don't know. At the start of the day, lat season, I gave it a shot of line KVD line treatment and it worked fine - no issues. I'll probably keep using it until it snaps on a hook set. Quote
Super User NHBull Posted January 25, 2020 Super User Posted January 25, 2020 Braid is good for years....and can be reversed to get more time out of it. That is why I never skimp on it Quote
