Doesn’t the DC get heavy when using jerkbaits though? Fishing 8-10 hour days over and over ? Or have trouble using them or it’s really worth it. Can you really fast it into the wind and not worry?

Yea, you are right they are quite bulky. But not to the point where it bothers me from being too heavy...my curado dc is the most high end piece of gear I have, and my lightest baitcaster is a regular SLX at 7 oz. Curado DC weighs in at 7.8 oz. Maybe it is because I am not fine tuned to super high end/light gear so I’ve just gotten use to it.

DC reels aren’t 100% bird nest proof but it has made it much much easier for me to cast, especially on windy days. Most of the jerkbaits I throw are 3/8 oz and 7/16 oz, usually the Shadow Raps size 09 and 11 (which really isn’t that light so maybe I’m wrong about all this). On windier days, I set my dc system to 4 (most braking power for the Curado dc) and yes the bird nests are limited this way. There’s occasionally some overrun but that’s to be expected. On a calm, more normal day however, if you set up your spool tension right as well as the proper brake setting you can literally chuck a bait out there and not worry about anything.

I fish jerkbaits on a Quantum KVD 7' medium fast BC rod that's at least 15 years old. It works great so I can't see changing.

I have 2 met DC'S and have them on my JB rod and light weight top water or light weight CB rod.  They balance very well and I have never thought they were heavy......and I have had several wrist and shoulder surgeries.

My dedicated Jerkbait rod is one of my cheaper rods. Just like fishing crankbaits I find I don't need a rod that is super sensitive with the cream of the crop components. So for me I use a 13 Omen black 2 6'7" M MF. The slower action helps keep me from pulling the bait out of the fish's mouth. I have mine paired with a casting setup and 10# Mono. I don't fish jerkbaits deeper than 4' and usually open water or light vegetation just to give you a perspective on how I use it. If I am fishing around rocks I'll bump my line to 12# Fluoro.

I’ve had good success with a Daiwa Cronos 7M paired with a Tat 6:3. I’ve used straight mono (12lb)for the past three years. Total should be under $250 now, but I couldn’t be happier with that combo for my spring jerkbait season. ?

I use the Megabass Destroyer One-Ten Special and I absolutely love it. I know it's above your budget but the Megabass Levante Jerkbait Special is built to the same specs (with some different materials) and is $199. I've heard great things about it as well.

I pair mine with a Tatula SV TW and 12lb Tatsu and couldn't be happier with how well it all works together.

Previously I was using a Mojo jb rod and it's definitely a great for only $130.

I have been using a G. Loomis 783GLX for several years.  It has been great for jerkbaits.  The length is perfect, it has a soft tip, plenty of backbone, casts light lures well, and is super sensitive.  I have tried other but this one just has the special feel for that particular bait.

That Ike Delay rod is really nice.

Don't start on me, but IMHO, once you spend more than $150 on a rod, you're buying prestige.

I have two friends, part time partners, that are G Loomis born again Christians.  Throw nothing else.

I've tried their rods.  Nice, but way over priced.

I can get two Lews, or SC Mojo's for the same price.  Fish just as well for me.

I use spinning gear to throw jerk baits, mostly because when it is jerk bait time it is generally kinda windy and for me spinning gear performs better in the wind, throwing into it or crossways than bait casting gear does.

I use an older Shimano 6'3" Medium action/ extra fast tip rod with a U.S. Reels 270 , with the extra large, wide spool.  I understand that the US Reel is a clunky p.o.s., with marginal tolerances and clunky grindy gears, but it throws half ounce lucky crafts into the wind farther than other reels I own, so that's what I use.   I could use a longer rod to increase casting distance somewhat, butI find that using a longer rod I slap the tip on the side of the boat when I do a downward snap, and the downward snap gets the bait a little deeper than a side ways snap would, so I go with the shorter rod.   I am mindful that should I get a decent fish on there is a chance that I could lose it due to reel malfunction, so I just pay attention & hope for the best.

Haven't lost any fish due to reel malfunction yet.
