Should I pick up the Stradic FL or wait for the Ci4+ version that will hopefully come out this year?

Didn't they just release the Stradic SW (saltwater)?

Ninja edit: nevermind, starts at 4000 size

Is there going to be a new CI4+ coming out this year?

So far there's no new info on one yet.

Usually they start putting the old model on sell when the new model is about to come out.

It may just be wishful thinking.

They have a trend of every 3 years revamping there lineup and the stradic ci4+ has been out for 3 going on 4. So I'm just going by shimanos tendencies is all.

The new FL's are supposed to be ultra smooth and lighter than the FK's, so that's a good choice in a metal framed reel. On the CI4 side, I own several FA's and have to make myself stay away from the current FB's because they're so smooth. Just can't justify replacing 4 perfectly good reels. If I was shopping for a CI4 I would look for a deal on the current FB.

My personal take is if I was looking at a Ci4+, I would said. The one problem that I have with that reel is my thump hits the bail when spinning if I'm not careful. I know others have had the same issue too, but knowing Shimano that will almost certainly be fixed in their next redesign.

That said, if you don't have that issue with the Ci4+, then you may just be wasting time that you could be on the water with it by waiting. I'm not sure what else there is to fix really.

I bought the FL when a local store had a good sale on. It's a very nice reel and very smooth. The weight is not a big deal for me, if anything it balances better on most rods and just feels solid. Can't wait for the ice to melt and go use it.

I own a stradic FK and a Ci4+. I'm adding a 3rd spinning setup and just dont know if I should go with the new FL or the current Ci4+ or wait for the new Ci4+ (if they are even releasing one this year)

I don't know what one would consider a "deal" but I picked one up brand new for $175 which I thought was pretty good.

One would think if they were releasing a new one this year, it might have, just maybe have, been included in all the 2020 release stuff that has been all over the internet lately.

175.00 is a great price for an FB. JDM sites are around 200.00 shipped which is better than 230.00 retail.

No sarcasm intended but what would you be waiting for, unless/until there is some major engineering breakthrough I don’t see why any of the current/previous models wouldn’t be more than adequate. I currently have the Stradic FK, Stradic Ci4+ FA & Ci4+ FB and wouldn’t hesitate to grab either of those for any situation. The FK is a little tighter but very smooth and I personally can’t tell a difference between the FA & FB.
