Super User Sam Posted November 8, 2008 Super User Posted November 8, 2008 My friend, who is a B.A.S.S. pro was on the Potomac, racing back to Leesylvania boat ramp for the weigh-in, when he hit something just under the surface of the water and it sheared off the lower unit. He says he was going around 70 MPH in his Ranger and that he heard the thump and the boat came to a slow stop. He used his trolling motor to get back to the ramp. He was very lucky as he could have been seriously injured or killed if the motor had been thrown back into the boat. He has no idea what he hit, but he thinks it was either a submerbed stump or a tree just below the water line. This shows us that even the pros can have serious problems on the water and no matter how careful we are we can still get into a ton of trouble in a blink of an eye. The repairs are covered by insurance so he will be getting a new motor and be ready to roll in a few weeks. Quote
The Next KVD Posted November 8, 2008 Posted November 8, 2008 thanx for the heads up, and a great reminder to everyone that bad things can happen to the best of us at anytime, anywhere, and we should never take anything for granted.. Quote

Super User Catt Posted November 11, 2008 Super User Posted November 11, 2008 Been there done that, didn't get a t-shirt either With 36 years on Toledo Bend I've seen all kinds of things happen when stump meets boat. The worst probably was during the 2001 B.A.S.S. Top 150 a Triton tried to take out an Iron Wood stump, stump still there, Triton no longer has a transom. Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted November 11, 2008 Super User Posted November 11, 2008 I have taken out several over the years. Never sheared one off, but damaged them so bad they were trashed. It will ruin a transom too. Quote
Super User Sam Posted November 11, 2008 Author Super User Posted November 11, 2008 Atrocity, Yes, he made weigh-in and came in second. Muddy, this is why we love you. Muddy, did you hear about the 80 year old guy who made sexual advances towards a 20 year old girl? They arrested him for assault with a dead weapon. ;D ;D ;D Quote
