adbassfishing Posted January 20, 2020 Posted January 20, 2020 I bought some LED lights to add to my deck. I have never ran lights/wiring before and I am looking for some advice on how to hook them up to my switch panel. I have seen some videos online about how to wire a complete switch panel, but they are all about a complete wiring with a new switch panel. I already have a switch panel with an open spot to add something. I have 4 lights that I want to add. Does anyone know of an article or video I can use? Or does anyone here have any advice? Not sure if it maters, but I have a Ranger 170VS. Thanks! Quote
Dirtyeggroll Posted January 20, 2020 Posted January 20, 2020 Just run them from the switch/power supply for the accessory or nav lights. 1 Quote
SuperDuty Posted January 20, 2020 Posted January 20, 2020 Lots of info on Google with pics on how to wire up a 12v switch whether it's a new switch or an existing one. My advice is to do a whole lot of reading and looking at pics and apply what you learned. If you don't feel comfortable then find someone who is. A boat fire isn't something you want. As dirty said, I'd just hook into the nav lights. 1 Quote
Super User Tennessee Boy Posted January 20, 2020 Super User Posted January 20, 2020 This should be easy to do. Be sure to use a fuse. Be sure to wire all of the lights in parallel not in series as shown the drawing below. If you wire them in series with each other, then each lights will only get 3 volts. 4 Quote
Alex from GA Posted January 20, 2020 Posted January 20, 2020 Exactly like Tennessee Boy said and pictured. 1 Quote

FordsnFishin Posted March 15, 2020 Posted March 15, 2020 Make sure you protect the circuit with a fuse or you could burn your boat down. Use heat shrink to prevent corrosion. I typically use heat shrink butt connectors you crimp on for your connections. Solder is also a great option. You probably already have a main circuit pulled where your control board is and probably can tap into it instead of going straight to the battery. 1 Quote
OnthePotomac Posted March 15, 2020 Posted March 15, 2020 I recommend butt connectors over solder. Will neve come apart and good connections. Use the right size 1 Quote
Bass Junke Posted March 18, 2020 Posted March 18, 2020 If you still need a little help. This you tube video made wiring make sense. This was my first time wiring anything. I just used what I learned from this video and applied it to my kayak. Here is what I did 2 Quote
