Joe_w1234 Posted January 17, 2020 Posted January 17, 2020 So I got a pack of ZMan Giant TRDs for Christmas from a friend, and I’m wondering exactly how to use them. I’m planning on getting some magnum trd jig heads, but does anyone know what size I should get, or another way I should rig these? Quote
Super User Scott F Posted January 17, 2020 Super User Posted January 17, 2020 Use them anyway you want. Search past posts for Ned Rigs to see how many guys do it. 1 Quote
Super User Bird Posted January 17, 2020 Super User Posted January 17, 2020 I have some on the way and thought they'd be great for Neko rig. Really like the durability of TRD. 1 Quote
Hawkeye21 Posted January 17, 2020 Posted January 17, 2020 I fish them just like the smaller ones. I'll even wacky rig them occasionally. 1 Quote
Super User NorthernBasser Posted January 18, 2020 Super User Posted January 18, 2020 This is what I use. Either 1/10 or 1/6, depending on depth. Weedless version if fishing around cover and no weed guard if fishing rock bottom. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Z-Man_Weedless_Power_Finesse_Shroomz_Jig_Head_3pk/descpage-ZMWPS.html BTW, you can always pull the weed guards off if you want some with no guards. They come off easily with a needle nose. 1 Quote
Super User ChrisD46 Posted January 18, 2020 Super User Posted January 18, 2020 *Do not confuse this new offering with the Big TRD ... The Giant TRD is 6 inches long and larger in diameter than your thumb - these things are huge !! This is definitely a monster power tactic TRD meant for flipping with a pegged 1 oz.+ flipping weight or T-Rig with a EWG Super Line 5/0 . I'd also consider the Davey Hite "Drop Dead" tactic using the VMC EWG Drop Dead 5/0 3/32md oz. hook size for this stick bait beast . I myself passed on them currently ; I may try one pack of Green Pumpkin in the Spring to experiment with to research the fall rate , action , etc. ... Did I mention these things are G-I-A-N-T ? 2 Quote

Ah, yes. I was thinking Big TRDs. For the Giant, or Gambler Fat Ace, this is the head I use. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Nichols_JT_Magnum_Weedless_Ned_Rig_Jig_Head_3pk/descpage-NJTMW.html Quote

Which size would you (or anyone else reading this) recommend? Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted January 19, 2020 Global Moderator Posted January 19, 2020 I use big stickworms, like the 7" BPS Stick O, on a swinging football head I make just for them with an 1/8oz head and 7/0 monster worm hook. The light weight head combined with the shape of the makes it really glide along on the rocks and reduces snagging. I'll bet that giant turd would be good for the same deal. 1 2 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted January 19, 2020 Super User Posted January 19, 2020 Every trip south of the border we go through 7 inch Senko's and any just about every other brand of big stick bait like crazy. We use them as jig trailers and they simply do not last. Often 1 fish & it's gone. I WILL be bringing a few bags of these Giant TRD's with me next trip hoping to benefit from the seriously stout durability. A-Jay 1 Quote

Super User gim Posted January 20, 2020 Super User Posted January 20, 2020 I have used some of the big TRDs before but never had great luck. At least not as successful as the original TRD. Gonna have to check out these giant versions. Quote
txchaser Posted January 20, 2020 Posted January 20, 2020 I'm toying with the idea that they are just the right size when cut in half. Meaty, craw-ish, maybe berkely's research will hold true. I just need to get on a Fat Ika bite and sub them in and see. @A-JayI like your jigworm idea! 1 Quote
