Henry NYC Posted January 17, 2020 Posted January 17, 2020 Hi! This is my first post here on BassResource, I hope this will be a great experience. I have grandparents living at a golf course in south Florida. I've been fishing there most of my life but could never figure out the spawn patterns. I'm visiting them next week. I've read a lot about how bass in Florida have a mind of their own and they spawn whenever they feel like it. I've been hearing different reports that they have been in prespawn, others that they are already spawning. I've never fished prespawn or spawn, would anyone be able to help me figure out what the bass are doing and some lure/technique recommendations? My trip and conditions: Mon 1/20-Fri 1/24. Rain showers Mon, Thu, Fri, otherwise mostly sunny. Temperature will be increasing throughout the week. West wind Mon, Tue, Wed, east wind Thu, Fri. Moon is waning until the new moon on Fri. Temp. will increase by the day up to 75F. Thank you for your help, and I hope I get to meet a few friends along the way! Henry Quote
Don51 Posted January 17, 2020 Posted January 17, 2020 Just fish as you would normally do unless you are specifically targeting spawners. Which I hope you are not doing! lol Not all bass spawn at the same time and not all ponds/lakes are at the right temp. Just go out and fish! You will be here at the beginning of a cold front so conditions will probably be tough! Quote
NittyGrittyBoy Posted January 17, 2020 Posted January 17, 2020 Assuming your bank fishing? Soft plastics should be key. Junebug U-vibe is a good way to start, T-rig w/ 3/16oz. Weightless T-rig senko 2 baits I would start with, and target shallows bass should be moved up already pre-spawn for sure. Quote
K.Mac Posted January 17, 2020 Posted January 17, 2020 Henry come on down, Nitty gives you some excellent advise, The spawning period in Florida is longer down here. I've been seeing some beds already in some of the ponds I like to fish but it's far from really kicking in the spawn can continue into march. I believe you can sight fish during spawn without disturbing the spawn, however do be very gentle with the fish. You will find the male guarding the bed, but the bigger female in most cases is close by and I find it a challenge to watch while you make em mad enough to attack your bait. handle your catch with care let em go where caught and he or she will find they're bed in minutes, however maybe let the male go a little farther from the bed so the female will move in to guard the bed and you just might catch them both. look for clear water so you can see and a good pair of polarized sun classes to improve your view. Use a weightless senko Texas rig or wacky and have fun, but do everything to take care of the female. good luck & God Bless! Quote
