Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted January 13, 2020 Global Moderator Posted January 13, 2020 Off top of my head, an onion sack full of mud. The thing was one heck of a fighter and rammed a treble through my thumb and out the other side upon release 2 4 Quote
flbassmaster Posted January 13, 2020 Author Posted January 13, 2020 wow! I am sure thought it was a ten pounder! Quote
Super User GreenPig Posted January 13, 2020 Super User Posted January 13, 2020 A live large 45+lb beaver in almost pitch black on a magnum jitterbug. The release was interesting by headlamp. Didn't want my net destroyed and BOGA grips are useless beavers. 3 4 Quote

Super User A-Jay Posted January 13, 2020 Super User Posted January 13, 2020 I was striped bass fishing with a couple of buds off a rock pile several falls ago at the mouth of a river at night in northern New England and hooked into 'something'. It was heavy & mostly dead weight but in the current it was super hard to get it. The moonless Night made it impossible to see what the heck it was until it was right at our feet. Dead Deer carcass - nasty ! I earned a new nickname that lasted a while that night. Initially it was "Deer Hunter" later shortend to "MV" which stood for Mike Vronsky - Robert De Niro's character in the movie Deer Hunter - which had recently come out. ohboyitsrobby Posted January 13, 2020 Posted January 13, 2020 A lawn chair. We were struggling in a tournament and I was super excited to finally feel something heavy. Didn't fight much though. 3 1 Quote
Super User J._Bricker Posted January 13, 2020 Super User Posted January 13, 2020 A 55 gallon Hefty Garbage bag. It wasn’t bass fishing, we were out on the SF Bay sturgeon fishing off the Oakland airport. An outgoing tide started, my rod loads up and the “fight” was on! Everyone was gathered around as I tried to gain line on a “monster” sturgeon that seemed more like a big bat ray. When I finally got it to break water, the disappointment was very quickly replaced by laughter and loads of good natured harassment... 5 2 Quote

It was hooked top center of it's back. I was finally able to grad it by the tail and partner was able to unhook it. I was wore out after holding that thing out away from important parts of me for a couple minutes. It was thrashing around something fierce. I almost just shot the thing. They can really hurt you. 3 Quote
galyonj Posted January 13, 2020 Posted January 13, 2020 I bet it was intense! There's a beaver at one of my local spots that I've only heard tell of – never seen – that apparently takes issue with people around its water. Slapping its tail and whatnot. I got to see an otter the other day, tiny little thing. 2 Quote
Super User the reel ess Posted January 13, 2020 Super User Posted January 13, 2020 The head of an obviously dead catfish-hooked in the mouth. I have no idea how that happened. I was fishing with a piece of hot dog. All I can guess is a live catfish or turtle was feasting on the dead cat and bit my hot dog. The hook must've transferred to the dead cat. My ex-monster-inlaw accidentally threw my old Zebco 33 combo in the lake once. You see why I didn't hand her a better combo. Years later I caught that combo and reeled it in. I cleaned it up, but it was junk. A fish basket (trap) with a dead turtle and a couple big live channel cats in it. They flopped around and covered my dad and me with the stench of dead turtle. The fishing trip was over at that point. 1 4 Quote
Super User scaleface Posted January 13, 2020 Super User Posted January 13, 2020 One time I was fishing jigging spoons off the end of a boat ramp and landed two wristwatches , a dip net and spinning rod/reel . The watches were Timex and Seiko. The Timex was still running . 6 Quote

BassinCNY Posted January 13, 2020 Posted January 13, 2020 Nothing too odd for me. I've learned to be careful around birds after a duck grabbed a crankbait. And a few snapping turtles. 1 Quote
NittyGrittyBoy Posted January 13, 2020 Posted January 13, 2020 Owl on Lake Tiger, Kissimmee Chain. Some reason bang-o-lure looked good that day. Dont ask how we got him unhooked. 2 1 1 Quote

FishinBuck07 Posted January 13, 2020 Posted January 13, 2020 I caught a sweatshirt and my dad caught a boot within 5 minutes of each other one night catfishing. My dad looked at me and said let's go somewhere else before we start hooking into body parts!? 7 Quote
schplurg Posted January 13, 2020 Posted January 13, 2020 I caught a bullfrog on a frog a few months ago. Only thing I've ever hooked with one, so far. Thankfully it was barbless. 2 Quote
Luke Barnes Posted January 13, 2020 Posted January 13, 2020 I've caught a fully opened umbrella that had lures stuck all over it. I guess my libe was stronger than theirs!! BUT...... the weirdest, weirdest 2 on the same day at the same spot actually. I got snagged on something sticking out of the water, as I reel it in my heart drops. It's a severed human leg. Pants, boot, all of it. I get it to the bank and call the cops. They come out and after about 20 minutes of them being squeamish, turns out it was kids playing a prank and wrapped a metal rod with clothes and put a boot on it. About an hour before that I caught this. 5 Quote
Way north bass guy Posted January 13, 2020 Posted January 13, 2020 I was ice fishing for lake trout, and managed to hook a small laker probably around a pound on one of my tip ups. For the southerners on here that don’t get the “pleasure” of being able to ice fish, a tip up is basically a spool of line with a flag attachment, that you pull in the fish hand over hand instead of using a rod. Anyway, the little laker managed to wrap itself around about 100’ of wire line and a trolling dodger ( looks like a 12” spoon and used as an attractor while trolling in the summer for lakers). We were fishing in about 80’ of water at the time off a big rocky point. When I set the hook, I could hardly move “the fish”, so my cousin started filming it as we thought we had a real giant on. With 20lb test, I was pulling right to the breaking point, then a bit of wire would let loose from the rocks and I’d gain about 20’ until the wire tightened up again, the whole time the small laker was head shaking down there just enough to give the feel of a real monster trout just toying with me. Finally after about 20 min. of not moving any further, I said screw it, it’s too cold to stand here all day, I’m gonna just pull till I move the “fish” or my line snaps. All of a sudden the wire came free of the rocks and up popped the little laker, a pile of nasty old wire and the dodger. That was the best one pound lake trout fight I’ve ever had and got the whole thing on tape ?. 3 Quote

Craig P Posted January 14, 2020 Posted January 14, 2020 Good topic to see if anyone else has my affliction. I catch rocks all the time. No joke here, I’m not talking snags, I literally reel in rocks any time I go spin fishing in streams. In 30 years of fishing with friends, I’ve never seen anyone do that but me, it makes no sense. I’m good for 1 about every 3rd outing. Anywhere from golf ball size to about double a golf ball size. It makes me and my friends laugh every time. 2 Quote
Super User WRB Posted January 14, 2020 Super User Posted January 14, 2020 We jigging in 150' of water for lake trout in Canada's Crow lake and I snagged a stringer with 3 live lake trout clipped onto it. The trout were skinny but alive and we released them. I have snagged lots of things over the years but the strangest may have been a tackle box full of lures that looked decades old with everything inside in fairly good condition. Lots of anchor rope with anchors attached, hats, shoes, jackets etc. Pelicans, owl, osprey, gulls, ducks, bats etc. Tom 1 Quote
Derek1 Posted January 14, 2020 Posted January 14, 2020 I foolishly tried fishing a jig in the river from the bank. Of course it got broke off. Four days later I foolishly tried to fish another of the same jig. Was able to pull this one free. It somehow got stuck on my other jig and I got them both back. I also caught some line that was attached to a lure my father lost a week before. Quote
