For those that use finesse swim baits  (Keitech FAT  2.8 , 3.3 & 3.8) for small mouth and spotted bass - what is your current spinning set up ? *I'm thinking my same spinning set up for a shaky head (i.e. Dobyns 703sf , Daiwa 3000 size reel , #10lb ~ #15 lb. power pro + #8lb. FC leader 1/8th oz. ~ 3/16th oz. jigheads) would work fairly well with finesse swim baits - your thoughts ?

Daiwa Tatula Elite AGS Spin Rod 7'1" Med

Daiwa Tatula LT SS 3000-CXH Spinning Reel

10 lb Suffix 832 braid main line with a 10 - 12 foot  8 lb Seaguar Tatsu leader

Doubles as a drop shot rig for me as well.

I have a few rigs that I use to throw those baits depending on my mood and a few other factors.

Loomis GLX 852s paired with Stradic 2500, 8 lb fluoro

Kistler KLX 6'9" M paired with Stradic 2500, 15 lb braid to 8 lb fluoro leader

Kistler Helium 7' LMH paired with a Tatula SV, 12 lb fluoro

Yes, your rig would be a very good choice.

Good combo for finesse swimbaits you plan to use it for.

I think that exact setup is going to be my next purchase. I’m currently using a Dobyns Colt 7’ ML paired with an Abu Garcia Revo SX20, and I’m looking to upgrade.

I use a couple of different rods depending on what else I'm throwing:

Loomis NRX 852 JWR

Dobyns Champion 702S

I use all Shimano 2500 reels with #10 PP w/ #8 Invizx or Sniper. I like the sensitivity of the NRX and the softer tip of the Champion. For me, the ideal small swimbait Rod would be the GLX 842 SJR.

The most important to the success of this presentation is the proper rod, which is a length of your choice, but not too powerful and not too fast!  Med light power is right in order to get the right acceleration of the bait when snatching it off the bottom.  you want it to start a little slow then accelerate, and after that you want the bait to fall while you are maintaining a sort of soft contact with it.  Med light power, moderate to mod-fast action.   These characteristics will also cast easily.  Braid is mandatory, but pound test of it and the leader is not that important.

If you are just steadily/slowly retrieving them after the cast then anything will work.

For the best hook sets, rig the swim bait so you leave a large gap open , which means putting the hook not that deeply into the lure.  Just under the skin, not through the center.

My 610mxf and alphas ito with 10lb yhb is on point as well.  I run keitech 3" easy shiners up to hud shads on this rig.

I think it's awesome that you have a photo for almost everything you say on this forum! Or maybe you're always on the boat with a camera ready to go while reading the forum? :)

Over the years I've compiled a decent video library of many of my fishing adventures.

(and you know what that's like)

Makes it easy & convenient to be able to 'pull' a quick pic from them when needed.

And I'd love to be always on my boat, especially right about now
