Many people prefer using a ball jig head for use with small swimbaits such as the Keitech 3.3 A guy in our club swears by them, but he says they need to have a bait keeper on them like the Gamakatsu. This allows the bait to swim more horizontally in the water column and not nose down.

The Dirty Jigs Guppy Head has such a keeper, but the head has a more oval design. Will both these heads perform the same way, or does one have an advantage over the other?

Thanks....Joe

I had to look up what a guppy head jig is!

Ball heads were the 1st type of jig head about 100 years ago and still popular. Guppy head is Dirty Jig brand name for a round fish head jig with eyes, gills and guppy mouth and imagine look great to fisherman. The aspirin head will have the same action and pearl white paint or plain the bass like.

I use darter head jigs with 4 1/2" curl tail worms (old school) and catch bass consistantly a jig not in favor with today's anglers.

1/4 ounce ball head for that size bait.

Thank you. 2/0 or 3/0 hook?

Personal preference. I don't like the hook bend going more than half way down the bait so I would go 2/0 if it were me.

I don't throw anything smaller than a 3.25 and fats do well with a 3/0 for me.  A 2/0 would be fine but I just haven't had an issue with a 3/0 size.
