Super User the reel ess Posted January 9, 2020 Super User Posted January 9, 2020 I'm looking for a pitching/skipping rod in the $100-$129 range. I fish from a kayak most of the time, so I end up skipping baits as much or more than pitching them underhand. A little tip is good for this kind of presentation. I already have a Hvy-F 7'3" rod for frogs and I rig it up with a jig or T rig in colder water, so I don't need the traditional flippin' cue stick. I'm currently using an older Falcon Lowrider that's actually for big cranks. What you got? Any feedback on Bucoo? The older Lowrider was one of those made in USA and it's very sensitive. At least it is to a cheap skate like me. Quote
Smalls Posted January 9, 2020 Posted January 9, 2020 I just bought an iRod 705 for basically the same thing. Haven’t fished it, yet, but I’ve pitched it around the yard/kitchen a lot since it came in. I’ve had a hard time putting it down, honestly. It’s got a fantastic tip for skipping. It’s got some backbone to it, but far from a broomstick. It’s in the Fiber line, which is priced at $100. They’re the same blank, but if you want nicer guides and what not, you can step up to the Genesis for $150 1 Quote
Bass Rutten Posted January 9, 2020 Posted January 9, 2020 I fish from a kayak a lot as well and like a 6’8” heavy, I find I don’t need much “tip” for this presentation and prefer the extra beef to pull fish away from cover while the length or lack thereof makes for very accurate casts and pitches and easy handling around piers, boats, trees, etc. The rod I use is a nrx 804c who’s heavy is kind of in between the average heavy and medium-heavy (got it real cheap), if I was to replace it with lesser quality I’d probably get a st croix mh/f in same length as their rods tend to be slightly stiffer than the average mh. 1 Quote
swhit140 Posted January 10, 2020 Posted January 10, 2020 I really like the BuCoo SR models, I feel that they are one of best rods at their price point. They do have several models in the BuCoo SR models so you might look at the different spec/techniques. https://shop.falconrods.com/collections/falcon-bucoo-sr-series 1 Quote

I just put the Bucoo SR "Pitching Stick" 6'10" in the Amazon cart. No guessing. Quote
