crankbait2009 Posted January 9, 2020 Posted January 9, 2020 This is stemming off a thread I just created about fishing Eastern Kentucky. @Jermination mentioned Cave Run Lake in Kentucky (East of Lexington). After doing some research into this lake, it looks like I might give it a go this year (end of May). I am considering camping at the lake, and then launching my kayak for some bass fishing. I see that there are a number of campgrounds around the lake. Can anyone recommend a good tent campground that would have easy lake access points for a kayak? I would certainly like to have location where I can walk to the shore and launch, but am not opposed to having to drive to a launch if need be. Less driving, the better. If anyone can recommend a campground, and wouldn't mind sharing some info on the kayak fishing part of the lake, I'd appreciate it. I'd be looking to camp/fish May 17-19 In the meantime, I'll start searching online for info as well. 1 Quote
drew4779 Posted January 10, 2020 Posted January 10, 2020 I haven't camped there in about 20 years and can't remember the name of the camp site but there were trails that led from our camp site to the water (about a 100 yards down hill). If your kayak is a lighter one, it shouldn't be a problem. It was on the eastern side of the lake. You could probably identify it on google earth (twin knobs...maybe?). I remember the rangers came and made us move our tents. There was a gravel area and grass area at each site. We put our tents on the grass, which evidently was wrong. Dont know if this is common in other places but I've never camped anywhere else with a designated gravel tent area. The gravel was freshly laid and very sharp. It tore up the bottom of one of my buddy's tents who packed the wrong tarp. Most everyone is focused on muskie there but I've caught some nice bass out of cave run. Good luck! Quote
TBAG Posted February 4, 2020 Posted February 4, 2020 I'd go to Cumberland instead, better fishing and better campgrounds with water access for kayak fishing. There are several campsites that you can camp on the waters edge, Pulaski County Park, Conley Bottom, and Fishing Creek Campground are just a few off the top of my head. Quote
