Pogues2300 Posted February 17, 2020 Posted February 17, 2020 Cool thank you very much. I live in Bloomington so ill check what's close where i can park and launch. Never really fished the river but a pedal kayak should make it doable. Quote
NathanDLTH Posted February 17, 2020 Author Posted February 17, 2020 It’s worth noting that Wisconsin changes their bass season to catch n release all year now. Might be worth investing in a Wisconsin license now. Quote

Pogues2300 Posted February 29, 2020 Posted February 29, 2020 Never fished the Mississippi really, curious when the ice flow is typically gone. Anxious to launch the new kayak in pool 2 somewhere as soon as it's safe. Quote
Ogandrews Posted March 3, 2020 Posted March 3, 2020 Main goals for this year is to break the state record catch and release pike and to hit the 50” mark for musky. I was only a half inch off of the record last year for my biggest pike and I saw 2 that would have easily broken the record. I have had so many musky follow that we’re in the 50-55” range it makes me sick that none hooked up. I’d also really like to catch my first tiger, planning on spending some time on the stocked metro lakes to get one. Bass wise I’d really like to hit the 6lbs mark with largemouth or 5lbs with smallmouth, but I’m only really going to be targeting them in the summer when I don’t have the time to make it out to a Musky fishery and it’s too hot to pike fish. One last goal is to get confident using bass style glide baits for pike and musky, I know they have to work. Quote

Ogandrews Posted March 4, 2020 Posted March 4, 2020 Ive watched every video they have put out in the last 3 years or so, best fishing channel on YT 1 Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted March 7, 2020 Super User Posted March 7, 2020 Had some surgery a couple weeks past - couldn't work on the canoe, but I could do yearly maintenance on the reels. My baitcasters have all been cleaned, lubed and now spooled. All have 10# Big Game backing Left side: 1 - Fuego CT-XS with 50# Power Pro 2 - Fuego CT-H with 12# Yo-Zuri Hybrid Right side: 1 - Pflueger Supreme with 30# Power Pro 2 - Pflueger President XT with 12# Yo-Zuri Hybrid 3 - Pflueger President with 20# Power Pro Now on to the spinning reels - I'm not going to mount any on rods until ice is out...I got a small place and other than on the canoe, no room to store combos...and I still got work to do on the canoe. 1 Quote
Super User gim Posted March 7, 2020 Super User Posted March 7, 2020 Well of course they work for pike. Just about anything does it seems...? Quote
ThatOneBigKid Posted March 9, 2020 Posted March 9, 2020 Anyone else thoroughly disappointed with the final day weigh in of the Classic yesterday? The Live coverage all three days was top notch as always, but the weigh in yesterday was so drawn out and filled with dumb crap like dog jumping that it made it really hard to watch up to the end. For being the 50th Classic I expected something much better. Very happy for Hank Cherry to get the win. Felt bad watching him rid around a half empty arena. My guess is everyone in the arena was sick of it being drawn out, and nearly 8:30pm by the time it was over, that they just left before the end. Hopefully they get some feedback from this one and shorten up the ceremony next season to just 1 hour. Dont need all the dumb sponsor crap in there. 1 Quote

For being the 50th Classic I expected something much better. I never grew up watching bass fishing, I occasionally watched the shows that the Linder's did but didn't watch any of the Elite Series, MLF, or FLW. It wasn't until I got into tournament fishing that I'd occasionally watch tournaments if I had free time. This was actually the first Classic I've ever watched, and I tuned in all three days on and off. And watched the top 6 weigh-in last night. For as much **** MLF gets because of their format, I think MLF as a whole has WAY better production value, their streams are higher quality, and the comentation isn't so fake and dramatized like BASS is. I got annoyed and just plain get cringe feeling when watching BASS and the weigh-ins, they're frankly just dumb as hell and the production value is NOT good. Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted March 12, 2020 Super User Posted March 12, 2020 And the spinning reels are done Left side: 1 - Pflueger Trion-35 with 10# Yo-Zuri Hybrid 2 - Pflueger Trion-30 with 10# Stren Clear/Blue Flourescent Right side: 1 - Pflueger President-25 with 8# Suffix Elite Hi-Vis 2 - Pflueger President-20 with 4# Yo-Zuri Hybrid 3 - Mitchell Avocet RZ-2000 with 6# Suffix Elite The Avocet is my shore-fishing rig mainly - stays in the truck for those impromptu trips for an hour or so. 1 Quote
NathanDLTH Posted March 22, 2020 Author Posted March 22, 2020 How is everyone weathering the storm with the coronavirus crap? I am still working and planing on fishing during the weekends till season opens up. Hope your families are healthy and everyone is doing their part to stay vigilant during the quarantine and helping our neighbors if possible. Quote
Sodaksam Posted March 23, 2020 Posted March 23, 2020 I’m living through my brother who lives in SoDak still. He’s fishing the Missouri River and picking up a few walleyes in 37 degree water. Not killing em, but getting a few. At least 2.5 ft of ice in my back yard. Mother Nature needs to get her rear in gear. 1 Quote
Ogandrews Posted March 23, 2020 Posted March 23, 2020 Was in a mini trout tourney that I ended up winning today and I’m going to make my first open water pike trip of the year to the pool 4 backwaters on Wednesday. I’m so excited to be casting in open water for big fish again I can’t wait, should be good with the water not being super high like it was this year and all the ice being gone already. Got a new pike setup that I want to break in too, 7’10 heavy st croix mojo bass swimbait rod with a tranx 300 and 65lbs maxcuatro braid, should be perfect for the big swimbaits/bucktails/spinnerbaits/glidebaits I throw. I really want it to be Wednesday already 1 Quote
Super User gim Posted March 23, 2020 Super User Posted March 23, 2020 My prediction of April 15 for open water in lakes around here still stands. I am wondering that if the Governor enacts a shelter-in-place order, will we even be able to fish though? Hauling a boat to the lake is probably not considered "essential" even though it does definitely practice social distancing. 2 Quote

If I am just going to fish by myself, how much more distance can I be? I bet they are assuming that if you are going fishing you are likely stopping at a gas station. Fingers crossed we can start fishing as soon as ice is gone. Could really use some social distancing right now.... Quote

You can pay at the pump for fuel. You can drive, launch, and fish by yourself. You can avoid the bait shop by using artificial lures. All of those items follow the rules and still classify as outdoor recreation. Physically going into a store of some kind other than a grocery store would require social interaction and therefore will likely be prohibited. Fishing in a tournament where there is a weigh in and a bunch of people together? Definitely not. Michigan just issued an order and theirs is very specific stating that outdoor recreation is fine to participate it as long as it practices the rules of social distancing. Quote
Pogues2300 Posted March 25, 2020 Posted March 25, 2020 Wisconsin also states you can do outdoor activity as long as you practice social distancing. Quote
