Fished the 100 acre reservoir I usually fish today and water was clearer than I’ve ever seen it. With the weeds growing in and just about touching the surface every fish in the lake seemed to be in the two bays I fished. I spent the first hour trying to sight fish for pike, got 2 in the lower 30” range and saw the biggest of my life. Drove up to it in my boat and thought it was a log until I got closer and then I just lost it, fish was significantly bigger than my thigh. It was in 5 fow and could see it clear as day, could not believe how thick of a fish it was. Looked to be very very similar in size to the 47” musky I caught a week or so ago but much fatter, had to easily be mid 40’s. Didn’t want anything to do with my bait but it was still so cool seeing a fish that could have broken a state record potentially. I also saw a couple bass that were in the 6-7lbs range. Fishing was slow, but did land a 4.0lbs on the dot on a musky sized buck tail going for pike. This body of water never fails to amaze me every time I come here.

Placing this in the rt thread.

Beautiful night last night on the water in the west metro. Females are off the spawn.  Caught 12 all together so not a bad night.  Landed 2 at 18 inches 1 a 17 inches. 9 more smaller than that.

Green pumpkin Ned rig and dark colored senko.  They were at the weed line or near clumps of weeds.

Hit Mille Lacs Saturday morning on a last minute audible. Was planning on going to Hayward, WI area but then saw the wind/weather for Mille Lacs and said screw it and headed north.

Got on the water around 7am and was instantly on the fish, was still seeing them on beds and near bigger boulder in the sand to rock transition areas on the east side of the lake.

Found several 4lbers, biggest came in at 4.45, just a few crayfish shy of a 5lber, best 5 came in at 20.10lbs for the day.

Best part about the day was seeing all the fancy wrapped boats all around us not catching anything, felt pretty good pulling in fish and them just staring at you trying to figure out what they're doing different from you.

Best part of the day had to of been when we cam across a VW sized boulder in 8' of water, thing was just massive, I looked at my brother and go "hey that looks pretty fishy" and tossed my bait right next to it and instantly my line started to quickly pull away from the boulder, just love when that happens.

This week is going to suck for fishing, very very windy forecast, not sure how much fishing I'll be doing this week.

Sounds like an awesome day, umdivx.

Got out Friday prefishing for a Sunday tournament on Coon Lake. It took all day but I finally found something I had confidence in for the tournament. Sunday was rough with the wind blowing 16-20 all day. My primary spot was so blown out you couldn't fish it. Scrambled around to a few other spots that had the same shallow grass on them and was able to scrape together a 10lb limit. Luckily a number of other teams had a rough go too so I ended up in 9th(solo) out of 22 other teams. Didn't completely blow my AOY/TOY chances with this one, but I defiantly dug a little hole. Next tournament is Minnetonka so I am looking forward to getting back to milfoil flipping.

Anyone else having a rough start to the season? I get one or two, but that’s it. Doesn’t help that I’m busting the bank. My biggest is 3.11 and that was opener on ‘Tonka.

You're not the only one. Biggest fish I have so far is a 1.8# Northern, all my bass have been dinks. Next scheduled trip out is this coming Wednesday.

That's interesting. I have had the best first month to a season that I've had in the past decade. Both in terms of numbers and quality fish.

The odd thing is that all my fish have been caught on moving lures (power fishing) and until today, I hadn't caught a single fish all season on finesse style plastics.

It could be I'm fishing a lot of newer bodies of water to me. It's been an interesting start for me.

Originally being from that area I’m familiar with the reservoirs down that way.  It’s interesting, the one I think you’re referring to the DNR never figured out how pike even were introduced to the lake.  Rumor has it a local dumped somewhere big ones in there from the Mississippi years back.  But wow, sounds like you saw Nessie...

I’m a plumber and I did some work for an old guy that lives on the water there. He told me that right when the reservoir was made that you could walk across it with how many perch sunnies and crappies there were. He said he and his sons made a couple trips to the Mississippi and brought back as many northern as they could and put them in there. Really cool to talk to the guy about how the place was right when they flooded it and he was the only one there.

I was on Mille Lacs for about 5 hours on Saturday amongst the crowds and caught 5 smallmouth.  Its a tough bite but all five of them were quality fish between 17-18.5 inches.  I caught all of them on a dark chatterbait or a perch megabass jerkbait.  I think the fish are done spawning now and have moved into the post spawn stage.  I spoke with another guy leaving around 12:30 at the access and he didn't catch any in 5.5 hours so that made me feel a little better that I was able to boat 5 of them.

Doing more “guiding” this Spring than fishing, but have a few guests that found SMB on a new stretch of the Miss.

Got out on Bald Eagle last night for the second tournament of the GH Advanced Wednesday night. Ended up 8th out 21 teams. Got plenty of bites but struggled for that big bite. Sounded like the M.O. for a lot of the teams. Still a fun night even though the wind was ripping.

Is it my imagination or has the wind been ripping for weeks on end?  Seems like we don't get hardly any calm days anymore.

The wind man, I can't remember a time where we've had this much consistent wind. Really getting tired of all this wind lately.

Tell me about it - makes it too windy for the canoe so I haven't been out in weeks.

Anyone looking for a weekend coangler to split costs with? I got plenty of tackle, but no place to store a boat/trailer living in the city ?

I was out on Saturday morning for about 3 hours.  Just about the best conditions a guy could ask for...calm winds and overcast.  I caught a new PB tiger muskie, plus a few small pike and several quality bass.  I also had what appeared to be a my biggest largemouth of the season on, but it got off when it went airborne.  Still no plastics for this guy, all moving lures.  Its been the most amazing fishing season for this guy...

Ended up placing 3rd on the GH Sunday Series on Minnetoka yesterday with 15.4 lbs. Had the trim/tilt solenoid on my motor go out mid day so I lost the latter half of my day dealing with that, but still had a great day. Also caught the Big Bass of the tourney as well.

Last week on Friday got up early as it was the first nice day without any major wind, went to one of my go to lakes where I know I can catch quality fish, was on the water by 5:40ish, went to my normal spots and really didn't catch anything, so started to just idle around side scanning and looking around.

While I was idling around a deeper point with milfoil on top of it, I had my line in the water dragging (trolling) a neko rig, and all the sudden I got trucked by a fish, ended up pulling up a largie just shy of 5lbs. Marked the spot and kept working it, just slowly dragging along the neko rig and for the next hour and a half was pulling up fish after fish after fish, 20+ in that span, smallest was 2.98.

Have never ran into a school like that where nearly every single fish was over 3lbs, was just nutz.

Sounds like an awesome lake there umdivx. Never have thought to troll a Neko rig. How fast are you idiling when your doing this?

Wasn't doing it on purpose. More so just being lazy.

Honestly don't really know, was more so just idling around side scanning marking the weed edges while having a line in the water while doing it.
