Elkins45 Posted January 4, 2020 Posted January 4, 2020 I’ve ordered a tail spinner (Little George copy) mold from Barlow’s that should be here soon. I’m thinking about cranking out a lifetime supply of the things and then selling the mold so it won’t just set unused in my garage until I die. Assuming 20 years of moderate fishing, how many of these lures would a person realistically lose? Part of me just says cast up all 100 of the wire forms I ordered with it, but the other part of me says that’s being excessive. How many would you make? 1 Quote
Super User jimmyjoe Posted January 4, 2020 Super User Posted January 4, 2020 It depends on two things: are you fishing from a boat, or are you a shorecaster? Secondly, how close to cover and snags are you planning on playing these little devils? If you're in a boat and have a lure retriever, you might not lose 3 a year. If you're a shorecaster, you might lose 12 or even more. I would. The closer you get to cover and snags, the more you'll lose, even if you're a boater and you have a lure retriever. If it were me, I would cast the whole 100. What the heck; if you have too many left at some future time, I'm sure you can sell them. OTOH, if you find out you really love them and cast too few, you may regret it in the future. You ain't gonna have what you ain't gonna have, you know what I mean? jj Quote
Super User GreenPig Posted January 4, 2020 Super User Posted January 4, 2020 HaHa! Little George is such an old fashion bait. I keep 10 in my box at all times. I'd cast them all. Quote

I’m not patient enough to let a Senko make it to the bottom of a 60ft River channel when a Little George can get down there in a couple of seconds. 2 Quote
Elkins45 Posted January 8, 2020 Author Posted January 8, 2020 I ended up pouring all of them. It didn’t take very long and I got in a groove so I just kept pouring until I ran out of wires. Now I just have to paint them all. 5 Quote
Elkins45 Posted January 10, 2020 Author Posted January 10, 2020 I’m curious to see how many of these I will still have a year from now. 2 Quote
Super User scaleface Posted January 10, 2020 Super User Posted January 10, 2020 Thats a good idea , making a lifetime supply then selling the mold . I use to fish tail spinners a lot but havent used one in probably ten years . I use blade baits some. I may do the same thing with a blade bait mold . Quote
