waymont Posted January 2, 2020 Posted January 2, 2020 d**n, the new price is $350.00 Doesn't seem like it will fly with most people. Quote
thunderblack Posted January 2, 2020 Posted January 2, 2020 and the cork is still the same. Helium is a nice stick but at $350 with slight changes..... Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted January 2, 2020 Super User Posted January 2, 2020 $350 $250 $200 ? 2 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted January 2, 2020 Super User Posted January 2, 2020 I drank the kistler koolaide a decade ago and bought a pile of rods. All of them eventually broke. I don't feel it was totally my fault either, since all my Saint Croix are still intact. A couple are nearly 20 years old. 5 Quote
Super User FishTank Posted January 2, 2020 Super User Posted January 2, 2020 I hope this isn't the beginning of a trend. Quote
Scrapiron Posted January 2, 2020 Posted January 2, 2020 Q&S and I have disagreed in the past on Kistler, but we’re on the same page on this. For $350 the blank improvements may be justified, but the rod components and finishing need to be upped to remain competitive in the market. Quote

Efishin Posted January 2, 2020 Posted January 2, 2020 I'll pass on a Helium at $350. Better options IMO at the price point Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted January 2, 2020 Super User Posted January 2, 2020 With Kistler running so many sales you don't have to pay $350. I personally never bought a Kistler rod because it was a Kistler rod. I bought it because Kistler built a finished rod on a Gary Loomis NorthFork composite blank. Quote
RichF Posted January 2, 2020 Posted January 2, 2020 Looks like a big increase across the board. That stinks. I love my Kistlers but at those prices, I'm tempted to go back to St. Croix. Quote
Westcoast Posted January 2, 2020 Posted January 2, 2020 If the Kistler prices become more than I’m willing to pay to build me a rod on a nfc blank. I’ll just skip the middle man and buy the blank direct from nfc and build it the way I want it. But like was said too, Kistler has so many clearance sales that you’ll rarely have to pay full price. bwjay Posted January 2, 2020 Posted January 2, 2020 I'll wait to hear other people's opinions of the new blanks. There's only one rod I want (6'6ML "BFS" Ned/dropshot casting rod) and it would have to be custom, so I have no temptation to buy one. I do think the cork should be improved for that kind of money (and just give me a flat butt cap). They are in GLX territory now. A lot of people have compared the H3 to the GLX in terms of sensitivity and MBR rod action but the price hike is a bit tough to swallow. I said in another thread that I'd be willing to bite the bullet if Trey offered the new rods at a 25% discount for a very short time (like a week) to get them out there and get people talking, but it seems that isn't happening. The new store is pretty snazzy though! Quote
Steve Myers Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 The klx has the same blank as the helium so I guess the hardware is 50 dollars different. I ordered a helium before xmas and they made a mistake and never sent it so when I called trey built me one out of the new blank for the sale price of 219.00 so i guess that's lucky. This rod is a 7'3" heavy and is has quite a bit more power than the one I ordered but I like it. I caught a 7lb on xmas day and it handled it great (frog) but i ordered it for football jigs and i think it may be to stiff for that, we will see. Last years rod was rated 3/8-1 1/4 this one is 3/8-2 . I wish I could see a feel these rods before buying so I can get the action I want. Trey prefers this business model and it's his to run how he wants. I love kistlers rods but for anything over 250.00 I think there are alot of rods with better warranty out there. I've doing business with the Kistlers since treys dad was a castaway and they sponsored me so I'd like to stay but I wont buy until they go on sale if they do. Quote

Fastbee Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 I really like my KLX rods but can't see that the Heliums will be that much better. Was thinking of trying one out but I might just look to a different brand. Quote
GReb Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 Who's making the new blanks? The website just says they are using Toray CF Quote
newyorktoiowa57 Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 They do run sales..but I don't really seem them being very competitive in that price range, especially with the new Poison Adrena 1 Quote
Super User webertime Posted January 3, 2020 Super User Posted January 3, 2020 Helium Or... Poison Adrena, Orocchi or Custom. Seems obvious to me. 2 Quote

It's unclear who is actually making the blanks. Maybe someone else has the exact answer? Quote

Fastbee Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 North Fork Composites made the blanks in the past but I thought I heard Kistler was moving away from them for the new line-up. Seems if all the materials are still saying NFC that they would still be building the blanks. Quote
