I was catching up on youtube videos the last week with the holidays and lack of fishing and noticed that most of the youtubers are jumping off the Favorite bandwagon.  And whether you care about the googans or not, there is no doubt their influence in the fishing industry right now, but they have stopped using favorite for months.

Reading between the lines I would guess this means there is a Googan branded rod coming out?

I have one of their rods and like it....

I prefer tried and true brands that have been in business many years and have good warranty.

So many proven companies out there, not interested in jumping on the Googan "hype train".

Wonder what sales will be like now that the googans are gone

Yep, I'd say most of their followers are teeny boppers.  And yep, 100% utter nonsense, but hats off to them for milking and cashing in on  that demographic of the fishing industry.

True - I have not bought into any of their hype because it isn't content that ever appealed to me.  I grew up watching In-fisherman, babe winkelman and some other bass fishing shows.  The fact of the matter is, the kids and young adults that are fishing now are going to reflect on Googans and others that are big now with that same retrospective.

I look back and remember fishing ugly sticks and zebcos.  I can still go buy an ugly stick and zebco.  Kids in 20 years are going to look back and remember starting with Favorite rods/reels.  Maybe that company is no longer around then, so that's a whole new territory.  Their influence whether anyone wants to admit it or not is cemented in the annals of fishing history.

I don't keep up with them, but from what I've read around online, some part of their deal with Favorite went sour and they all ended up leaving.

I can admire how they brought a new generation to the fun of fishing but I often wonder, like most in this type of marketing machine, when will the send their followers astray just to make a buck.

Pretty sure they already have, I have watched videos from each of them where they have went on private property even though it was posted just to fish!  Now as far as I am concerned that is leading people astray.  They and others on YouTube have no respect for others property, which sends the wrong message to a world that already has no respect for others!

From what I understand, it has something to do with the codes the YouTube influencers have for their subs to get 20% off Favorite rods.

The story is some of these influencers were generating over $100K in rod sales for Favorite and in return they received free rods in the $1000+ range. They wanted more of a profit sharing relationship.

As far as what happened with the Googans that remains to be seen. I can only assume that they want to branch out and start making rods under their own brand. The appearance of rods with Googan logo's on the butt cap makes me think they have some prototypes already in development.

On a side not someone at work who knows I am into fishing got me the Googan pliers and scissors for a holiday grab bag. They are decent quality. The pliers are not spring loaded. That surprised me as most fishing pliers are and I prefer the ones that are not. I get a better grip without the spring.

I don't follow them....at all.  So I don't know whatever story they've been feeding their fans in order to make them look in charge or important.

But make no mistake.  Within the fishing industry, influencers do not call the shots.  So if the relationship was severed, it was highly likely it was Favorite that terminated them, not the other way around.

Given Favorite got a new marketing director just before it happened, I'd say they decided to go in a different direction. Nothing more than that.

i actually wouldn't be surprised this is true. the googan squad is perceived as a massive joke to a much larger demographic of the bass fishing community than the other. all in all most definitely hurt favorite in targeting the more serious/seasoned angler market. why would they want their brands image to be tarnished by a group of youtuber's, whose audiences average age is 12 years old? there's no doubt in my mind that their higher-end rods are probably very nice, but no one is going to want to buy them when 99% of their rods were only purchased by googan thumb suckers (and their parents).

So you guys seem to be knocking these guys for “tarnishing fishing” and having a “demographic of 12 year olds.” Here’s the way we see y’all. I’m 16 and enjoy fishing, football, and baseball. Like all nice things, I take care of my rods. People knock Googan products for appealing to the younger generation and “durability”. I take care of my rods and roll my lures when I rig up so durability issues is just for some people. Now for the “kids”, these are the next generation. Y’all are like Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, and Peyton Manning. Y’all are one day going to be gone. The Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes generation of fishing is coming. Be thankful these guys are getting outside to fish with a modernized twist on it that appeals to this generation. Just because they aren’t 100 years old doesn’t make them a bad brand. One day, my generation will be old and there will be a new generation with a new “best” brand. It’s really not a big deal. Let the kids fish with the products they want to use. Googan products, as much as I have used them, are pretty solid. A common recurring statement I’m seeing from y’all is “I don’t know too much about these guys, but I do know...” or “I haven’t tried their products but I heard...”. Don’t knock it until you try it or just don’t knock it. If you like your brand, go like your brand. It’s not a big deal. Now for you folks saying they are going on posted private property, don’t act like you’ve never broken a law and didn’t get caught. Remember your nitpicking here next time you go 46 mph on a 45 mph road. It’s posted that you can’t exceed 45 mph, but everyone does it sometimes anyways.

Reread what you said. No one wants to buy them because of who buys them... It’s just like Wilson in baseball. They sell youth gloves and selling tons of youth gloves for smaller margins makes more money than less adult gloves for huge margins. People don’t care if someone they don’t relate to is sponsored (unless there is a controversy like Kaepernick that starts boycotts). The cheaper models like the defender sell to a different audience than some of their $300-$400+ rods do. Favorite probably lost in the long run because of how difficult it is to make money off of few expensive products vs. many cheaper products. Just a thought to think about.

It's great they're getting kids interested, but there's lots of great companies out there that are proven. The Googan Squad isn't manufacturing anything. They're buying mass produced rods from who knows where, putting catchy/quirky/funny names on them, and selling them to their followers who have no idea what a good rod really feels like, only that it has the name on it and someone (who gets a cut of the sales profits), they watch on Youtube uses it and says it's great.

Is it better for them to get kids involved who maybe wouldn't otherwise and potentially sell them a lesser rod or one that breaks? Hard to say. Maybe they work out great for them and that's great. Then again, maybe they'd like to be informed there's other good options out there that already have a proven track record so the don't potentially waste their hard earned money on a rod they end up breaking or not liking? There's a metric ton of options in the 100-150 dollar range where their rods are priced. I'd be interested to see a rod builder get one in their hands to really look it over and critique it.

As for going on private property, zero tolerance. Anyone who says it's okay to do has never owned property. Is it cool if someone comes and hangs out in your back yard? It's not, just like it's not cool to sneak onto someone's land to fish their pond or lake. It's really frustrating that they're portraying it as cool and laughing about it and playing dumb when they get caught because then their followers think the same way.
